Heard Steve Angello play this out a couple of weeks ago @ Ministry of Sound and upon enquiring the track ID from him... he was unable to remember the tune and I left a rather stroppy old sod. Then on Saturday I heard Riton play it, and upon following him up, he yelled only four words: "On The Run, Bitch!". A quick search on the hype machine enlightened me with the banger itself... revel in it!

Little bit of a closet monster this one that was upped to Noiseporn recently. Aparently found on someone's facebook page, but now floating in and around the hard drive's of many-a-people I feel. Propa epic bass... reminds me somewhat of 'Say Whoa'. Got to love the vocal work too... sublime!

The Toxic Avenger - The Fall (Switch Remix)

Propa feel good tune right here and a return to form for Switch, who's been a bit pre occupied selling out as Major Lazer... hats off to him, truly deserves it!

However, I have missed the Switch swagger, and his awesome production. An awesome rolling build into a cheeky silent drop... so unexepected but so good.

Tek-One - Hate You

Epic Dub here from a man so much in form, not even Skream could out do him currently. Tunes like this move buildings not just dancefloors, and the drum work here is so good it makes my panties all wet.

Exiaion - Obvious

Found this track courtesy of Hush House... and holy bejesus wept, it is filth. Imagine a situation where Far Too Loud, Plump DJs, Bare Noize and 16-Bit would all be placed in a smoothie maker... this would be the product. A fresh as fresh comes layer of electro-breaks spread over a rolling wobbly bassline that just doesn't stop.

Been a bit quiet on the blogging front from me recently I'm afraid, as preparations for going off to University have rather taken over my life.  But all of that is nearly over, as is the summer - so to signpost the end of summer, a few lovely mixes for you - of the summery variety, although they'll be good all year round!

One gripe of mine at the 'Summer Mix' time of year is the influx of DJs who put together what is apparently a fairly standard mix full of peaktime bangers, albeit labelled as a summer mix.  The whole idea of a summer mix is that it should be listenable on a summers day!  So these mixes represent the antithesis of these self promoting "Summer Mixes", and are instead something truly summery and cheery, full of good tunes - both lesser known ones and the more obvious ones.  Coincidentally, one of these mixes comes from the Palms Out Sounds Summer Mix series - apologies for the poaching POS, but the mixes were so good I just felt it needed airing.

Last but in no way least we have the Mancunian duo Shadow Dancer's Summer Mix for POS.  With a bit less of a discoey vibe than Haynes' effort, SD's mix is still something to be proud of - the breadth of tunes is astounding, and some of the mixing between genres is genuinely breathtaking - the mix from Fridge --> Tunng ---> Peter Gabriel has to be heard to be believed.  The mix clocks in at just over two and a half hours, which might sound a bit weighty, but give it the benefit of your patience - one of the best mixes I've ever heard, I was kept guessing at every turn.  It may have even overtaken the Erol Alkan Bugged In Mix as my favourite non banger mix ever!  Enough chat - just make sure you download this mix - the sheer diversity of it will keep you going long after summer is over.

Weekly News

Some very very privilaged material came into my Inbox today that I'm able to share with you all :D... take a pleasureful ganders!

The Japanese Popstars have just released details of they're upcoming Live album titled 'We Are Just: Live'. I've been really impressed with them over the past couple of years and their new Live element has received heaps of praise across the DJ'ing/Clubbing world. Mixmag have hailed them as "THE MOST EXCITING NEW ELECTRONIC ACT ON THE PLANET”, and DJ Mag have coined them as “ONE PART KITSUNE STYLE DISTORTO-RAVE, ONE PART CLASSIC STADIUM DANCE THE LIKES OF WHICH WE HAVEN’T SEEN SINCE ORBITAL”.

These are big shoes to fill, but I'm confident they can stand up to the hype.

The album was released on Monday on Gung-Ho Recordings and is available from all good retailers including HMV.

Also making big noises of the Dubby variety at the moment is up and coming Dubstep producerJSaxton. The young man from Leeds has been producing some really dark and deep sounds of late. Afternoon all... got to be quite brief with this post, as I only have about half hour of internet in the Library at university (as Virgin Media are not installing my internet until Friday this week... 7 days after they said they would!) to get this beautiful selection of music to your ears. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll (dangerDAN Remix)
A great new remix from one of my favourite producers at the moment, dangerDAN. Taking on a really positive vibe similar to the remix I enlightened you with last week of AVH's Funk Phenomenon. It starts off quite dark and chilled, with a rather soothing, rolling bassline that sweeps into the main beat. Karen O's vocals really compliment the excellent percussion work as well and the drop is rather Indian Summer-esc ;)... top effort!

Hostage - I Get High
I simply adore the big bass man Alan, far too much! He is simply a one-man-party sensation in action, and this is his latest track, currently getting much love from none other than the lady of the moment Annie Mac. Conjuring up a whole host of Kite-like renditions, then swooping into a rather tasty wobbly bass lick, I Get High really hits on all kinds of levels for me. The recognition Hostage is getting for this track is very long overdue and very deserved in my opinion.

Noob & Brodinski - Peanuts Club (Beatau Cue Remix)
Building on the success of their two recent remixes of Pon De Floor, Beatau Cue takes things a stage further with this new mix... feckin' massive! I literally can't wait for the opportunity to play this out... it is making me wet my little blue panties right now! Epic, epic stuff... much better than Renaissance Man's rather tame effort if you ask me.

Miike Snow - Black & Blue (Savage Skulls Remix) Switch's latest singing to his Dubsided venture show their true colours here with a cracking acid'y make-over of the latest single to be lifted from one of my favourite albums of the year.
If anyone makes a bassy, glitchyeryiness-kind-of tune that is as epic as this, this year, then please point it out to me. Jack Beats... cop a load of that!

Currently taking a nice place on the most recent Orange Rockcorps ad, this tune with a tastier new take is making big noises on the club circuit at the moment and rackNruin's other material also has plenty of clout to boot. Oi oi! Morning chaps... got a really special feature for you today on possibly the newest (and in many cases biggest) up and coming electro producer in the world in my opinion. He's scored heaps of praise from the likes of Louis Louis and Data Sapiens, and since then has seen his MySpace views double and I expect them to double again within the next month.

His own productions have really impressed me of late and I expect big things from him in the near future, so any willing promoters and label owners, sign this guy up ASAP!

I'm Luca, I'm 19 and I've been producing electro music since January. I'm also the drummer of a rock band called romano nervoso so basically I've been making music since I was born!!! I live in Belgium in La Louviere and I'am a resident DJ at the only club in my city.
I've got a lot of influences, but the sound pellegrino stuff and its kind of tropical mood these last months has really interested me. I listen a lot of electro music, I think I spend roughly 4 hours a day downloading all the new music that's released... so I'm always looking for some new tunes.
Although, my music is more a mix of all the people I listen to, it's not really tropical music, but it has the same vibe with a touch of aggressive electro. I think to produce music in general u really need to listen to a damn lot of music. When I create music, naturally I'll put some of my influences and vibes in my productions. In my opinion Popof is just the best producer ever, but I'm also influenced by the likes of Crookers, Wolfgang Gartner, Noob, Renaissance Man, Solo, Mowgli, Style of Eye ...
I use Fruityloops to produce my tunes, usually the first think i do when I'm producing is the beat, after that I try to make a pattern with an oscillator that could stick in people's minds and after I just sample voices from old rock band or jazz artists. I love slicing sounds apart, messing them up and making a new sound, it generally works well with anything. I use the fruityloops oscilators, filters, a lot of compressors, slicers, samplers, reverbs, d blue glitch for the delay stuff, gaters and some free vsts. Then in the end I'll find a name for the song.
My main goal at the moment is to find a label to release my tunes on and then tour everywhere in the world, even at everybody's house hehe.

Weekly News

First up a bit of event news for those of you from/near to London. The Pull & Bear afterparty is tonight (Wednesday 16th) and is going to be an absolutely massive night - it's going down at the Bathhouse in Liverpool Street, and unbelievably it's free entry... Which considering the lineup is fairly hard to believe: Drums of Death, Joe Goddard, Cooly G, Brackles & Patchwork Pirates. So if you're in London tonight then make sure you get yourself down! Warp have released a whole load of new details about the upcoming Hudson Mohawke LP: the LP is called Butter and is due out on the 12th October. You can check the artwork above, and HudMo himself has put together an album minimix, which you can cop here(right click, save as.). Next up we've finally got some news about the Night Slugs EP (which is forthcoming on Jackmaster's Dress 2 Sweat imprint.) The EP was originally due out on the 14th, but I've been assured that it is coming SOON, and problems with the label are responsible for the delay. We've finally been given a glimps at Pioneer's new range of CDJ's, which seem to feature some kind of headup twaveform display (I'm hoping it's nice a touch responsive)... James Zabiela has recently expressed his delight at the new features, which I think are a strong answer for anyone DJs wondering whether to switch to digital... to just stay put with CD decks.

Also this weekend sees the third anniversary of one of my favourite labels in the game, Trouble & Bass, who've got Skream and Benga coming over to Brooklyn for a very special party.

I've been a huge fan of the label for the last couple of years and hope to see DTL at least once more this year... fabric sort out another residency night please!

I've recently been given the low down on a new duo from Maidstone called Dubway. They're very new to the scene but have already caused a stir with their first mix, a ten minute mash-up of beats, rhymes and lyrical genius. Their own hand-crafted acapella of Too Many Men laid over one very such filthy wobble madness is probably the best transition, but see what you think for yourself. Club Candy

Hey... apologies for the lack of post from myself over the past week... I have one very good reason for this, and a number of slightly interesting, but also very cool ones.

I went back to University last Sunday and found that my new house does not have a BT phoneline, which has meant I've had to go back to Virgin for my internet, and they can't connect it until around next Monday, so I've had no internet. Secondly, because it's been university and all, the first week etc, I've been partying way too much and have been out and about for the last 7 nights out of 8 in a row... excluding yesterday due to the recovery process.

I've had 3 house parties in that process, been out in London twice and DJ'd at Ministry of Sound... holy fuck YES! I was lucky enough to open The Box... :O, for a student night called Kneez Up, which is run by my new employer Rough Hill.

I had such a great time and for just under an hour had the World's Most Powerful Soundsystem as my disposal... :D, I'll upload a piccy of the line-up later in the week... now on with the tunage.

Far Too Loud - Bass Association [Sample]

After the recent news that FTL would be turning into a solo-act and Dom Smart had decided to venture into a new solo project of his own, I was intrested to know what would become of their iconic psychedelic enriched breaky-tech sound. Samples of new tracks were uploaded to Funkatech Records' Soundcloud page last week, which have got me all excited, with Bass Association taking the gold.

This reached my inbox this morning via Highbloo himself... an absolute banger. It screams SonicC's Stickin' to me, but the vibe doesn't really smack your face in, but forces you to yell "Holy Shit, I'm MELTING".

More of a minimal disco note here and a superb new take on the legendary Funk Phenonema by dangerDan who's hooked us up with an mp3 here. I love the leads on this remix, and there synthline in the background that vibes through to the foreground at 2:00... top remix!

Mirage - Get Down (Kissy Klub Version)

I don't usually say this about Kissy's edit's, but this is a top top re-work by probably one of the hardest working DJs in the scene. The sheer volume of edits he now must posess on his hard drive is quite literally shocking. I'm talking in the region of probably 10,000. The man is god in my eyes and this edit of the 80s toon is no exception to his high standard.

Tiga - Mind Dimension (SexInvaders Remix)

I got this straight from Kissy's mouth last week from his R1 show... and OMG what a remix. There's a vocal rework before the drops with a female voice ushering the famous "everytime I look into your eyes, I see the future", instead of Tiga's, which really adds to the dynamic layering of sounds in this mix... this will go off!

Urban Update

This is a new kind of post I'll be doing every Friday - as a kind of partner to Lee's Club Candy post. Rather than the more house/techno approach that Club Candy takes, this post will be taking in more of an urban kind of approach - dubstep, bassline, garage, UK Funky, hip hop.

The first track seems to more of a mix of all of these genres than any specific one - Joy Orbison's massively hyped debut single Hyph Mungo is out now to buy on vinyl on Hotflush, and will be on Beatport from Monday for 1 month exclusively.  Quite simply one of the most exciting tunes I've heard all year, Hyph Mungo is composed of pure euphoria.  That moment when the first beat kicks in is simultaneously so unexpected and so right as a contrast to the subtlety of the tracks info that it can't help but produce a smile on your face.  Anyway, nuff words - check this out: Vinyl from here, and youtube clip below.

Back in June this year I posted about an upcoming new Zomby EP - read here.  However I knew disappointingly little about the EP - no name, no actual music.  So I was absolutely over the moon to find the CD in Phonica the other day.  My first vinyl purchase since coming back from the musical wasteland that was my two month's in Greece, I'd had no idea that the EP was out.  A distinct contrast to Zomby's tribute to rave, Where Were U In '92, The One Foot Ahead Of the Other EP is more of a forward thinking EP - shuffling 4x4 riddims slot in between synths that could be straight from a game soundtrack.  Helter Skelter is immediately a standout track for me - each flurry of notes spiralling further and further away from what dubstep once stood for, this has to be another incredibly exciting release for UK urban music.  Another immediate favourite, Polka Dot starts slow and immediately falls into anarchy - this track comes the closest to advancing what Zomby was striving for on '92.

Next up we head into mix territory - one from me showcasing what I reckon to be some of the most exciting new talent in underground urban music (particularly fitting at this point, as I seem to have returned to one of the most exciting times for underground urban music in my memory.)

Last (but not least), a mix from me.  This mix is going to showcase the most exciting talent in underground urban music, as well as showcasing a new direction from me in production terms - which is somewhat closer to my listening habits of late (hip hop producers like Paul White, Bullion, Tayreeb, as well as UK Funky producers like Geeneus, Cooly G, Emvee and Julio Bashmore). I'll get right down to business with a quick track by track description, and the actual mix:

Ben White * UK Underground Urban Mix

Ben White *  Blue Skies All The Way / Living In

Two new hip hop joints from me to kick things off.  Blue Skies All The Way is a dreamy Paul White style ting, vocal samples and lush piano to boot, while Living In is more of a crunky affair all together.  Grab them both from here.

Floating Points * Love Me Like This (Nonsense Dub)

Budding scientist tries his hand at production - and happens to create some of the year's finest dancefloor hits.  Cosmic house/ blissed out disco style tunes of the finest order, the live show is especially of interest: Points plays live with a twelve piece band. Not to be missed.  Love Me Like This takes some chunky piano chords, combines them with analog filters, and creates something truly stunning.

Ben White * Waves

This goes hand in hand with another funky tune that comes later in the mix - this is more of a deep affair, with plenty of space.  Get both of them together here.

Silverlink feat. Badness & Jammer * The Message Is Love (Mumdance Remix)

Mumdance's remix of this Soca smash brings a carnival/funky vibe to it - the tropical 8 bar vibe is truly awesome.  No doubt most heads will already know about Mumdance, so in this case I'll let the music speak for itself.

Mount Kimbie * Sketch On Glass

This South London duo combine Mogwai and dubstep, and just about everything else inbetween - their music is highly experimental, and ranges from the more dancefloor friendly offering of Sketch on Glass to largely beatless tracks like Serged.  Micro rhythms and colourful melodies keep the dance progressive and interesting.

Zero 7 * Everything Up (Zizou) (Joker & Ginz Remix)

Enough words have been said about Joker - both on this blog, and many others.  His productions have seen him hail as one of the Purple trinity, and have seen him go from smalltime Bristolian producer to remixer of acts like Basement Jaxx, Example and Zero 7.  This mix absolutely destroys the original, pushing all the layers to 11, before toning it right back down and folding in on itself. Emvee ft Slick Don * Do It The Right Way

Emvee's debut single Glitch Dub was absolutely massive, both in the funky world, and out of it.  Out on Glaswegian label Wireblock, it got massive play from many DJs, including me.  Emvee's followup takes more of a bassline vibe, but still with a classic UK funky beat.  Absolutely class.

Head of Eglo records, home to another of my top tips Floating Points, Alex Nuts also hosts a show on Rinse FM.  His shows take in hip-hop, grime, dubstep, house and soul, all impeccably mixed.  His productions offer much the same vibe, so check out his releases, show and his productions!

Dorian Concept * Trilingual Dance Sexperience

Austrian producer returns to Affine Records for his new 12" - arguably his most listenable and dancefloor friendly yet.  Pitch bent treble and fast forward synths make this  a must listen.

Moderat * Rusty Nails (Shackleton Remix)

Don't think there's a lot to say about producer as well known as Shackleton - just listen.

Doc Daneeka * Funky Bit

Relatively new producer emerging from legendary Dubstep Forum - already got support from people like Marcus Nasty, L-Vis, Bok Bok, Brackles, Footloose, Jackmaster and TRG to name a few.  Check out the post Curb Crawlers did on him for more info and other tunes, meanwhile cop Funky Bit here (right click, save as).

Zinc feat Aloe Blacc * All Your Bases

Another producer who doesn't need a lot said about him - he's progressed from jungle back in the day, to crack house these days, even running his own label - Bingo Beats.  This tune is a free download to help celebrate Rinse's 15th birthday, and is an absolute banger.

Ben White * Funkstep

More of a 2 step vibe, this funky tune creates plenty of heat in the dance, and you can cop it along with Waves from here.

Fever Ray * Seven (Martyn's Seventh Mix)

Martyn has been one of my favourite producers in that kind of dubstep/techno/impossible to define genre for a while now, and I think this quote pretty much sums up his production style:  "Although it might sound a tad arrogant, I'd like to think of my music as 'Martyn music.' I try not to think of it as dubstep or techno, or house or drum & bass—it's not about genres, it's about music. This way I feel more freedom to make the music I want to make."

Fantastic Fox & Mr Rich Reason * Plimsouls

Part of that Hemlock crew (James Blake etc), Fantastic Fox combines wonky beats with an IDM background and proggy electronica. Comparable to Zomby, Sukh Knight and TRG.

Also get locked onto Emalkay's tune, soon out on Caspa's Dub Police syndicate as a 12", which has been tearing up the club scene of late... I had to pleasure of being in the booth with Caspa last week when he dropped it at Under The Radar's recent 16+ party at Ministry of Sound... shit when downnn boi!

A nice juice of tunes to get you're heads around... lots of vibe in all of these tracks. 2009 may have been branded as the year of the weird and the year of the piano... but it's most definitely a year with big vibes!

Weekly News

Not had a Weekly News section for a little while and one is much needed. Got some top mixes for you this week, some sexual news about Radio 1, some sexual news about an old man who has a secred fetish for Drop The Lime, and some very very very perculiar news in the form of a Hotel that lets out tents for a night.

First up is the Brooklyn Bass master they call AC Slater. Slater had recently, gone off the radar a little bit as far as productions and remixes go, however, he's come back stronger than ever with a brand new mix full of juicy bass biscuits just for you. 23 tunes in just over 32 minutes, means a running time of just over one minute per tune... not bad!

The net has become awash with overhyped electro synth madness in my opinion of late, so it's a breath of fresh air for me to hear such a delicious array of beats and madness.

I really hope this dude makes it over the pond at least once more this year. Fabric you owe it to us all to book him and Drop The Lime for your 10th Birthday weekend... please, make it happen!
