First off apologies on purely the lack of content from us since the start of July. Ben was in Greece for the whole of July and August, and I've been running a weekly club night since the start of July and have been working in the week every day up in Notting Hill (London). Sometimes you just want to come home and chill, it kind of felt like it would be a chore to blog, and that's not what I got into it for.

So enough of the excuses, let's just say that Squeaky Bleeps is back and better than ever. I'm only gonna be bringing you one post per day from today, but I promise that they'll all be worthwhile.

I thought for this first mix I'd simply post up a couple of mixes and some tracks that I've been feeling over the past couple of weeks. Please, enjoy them as much as I have.

The first mix comes from one of my favourite UK producers of the past few years, Raffertie. Consistently one step ahead of everyone one else in his field when it comes to pure sonics and revolutionary sounds. This mix was compiled for Grimme5 last month and has been on constant repeat for me ever since. I recently caught him in Fabric's Room 2 a few months ago for the first time and was blown away by the pure energy he puts into his sets from start to finish, minus the stale red leicester.

Visual Acuity (as it's actually known) is to be commended by Squeaky Bleeps as a true and serious contender for Track of the Year, no messing.
Raffertie has spent the whole summer locked away in some sea-side studio crafting his new sound, and he's chosen the perfect moment to start up his own record label, which will be called Super. He summed it up like this...

"Super is a contemporary and forward thinking label. I really don't want, if at all possible, to start naming genres and styles and things like that, because what I really want is for people to formulate their own ideas about what Super is. What I can say is that we are endeavouring to embrace every nuance and subtlety of the UK underground scene. Every artist that we are releasing has their own distinctive sound and I think those releases will speak volumes more about our label’s stylistic direction than anything I could put into words."

Next up we have SBTRKT who recently guest mixed on Mistajam's Radio 1Xtra show, a very prestigous position for this young producer and one which I thought would be quite unlikely, so kudos to Mistajam for this opportunity.

A fantastic mix showcasing up and coming material for SBTRKT on Numbers, as well as new hits from Benga, Terror Danjah and Mt. Kimbie... Well worth a listen.

Hey peeps... Really sorry for the lack of postage on this blog during July... I'm working full time during the week from 10am til 7pm... and as soon as I get home I just want to chill most days. Will be getting some posts scheduled up on the weekend and getting the blog back to business very soon.

You may have heard of Brenmar from our homies over at Pipedown last month after he dropped his amazing remix of Aaliyah's R U That Somebody... a classic that was brought to life by Brenmar's playful but emotive production style.

He's back with an awesome new remix, this time of Cassie's Me & U, which was also recently remixed by man of the moment Kastle (expect a new feature on him this week too).

I certainly remember this tune getting a simply stupid amount of play on MTV Bass back in the day... that synth was absolutely synonymous with the RnB scene at the time... memories. You never forget a video like that when you're a 16 year old.

So it's the beginning of another week, and what better way to celebrate the summer solstice today than by posting up a new mixe?

Aka Aka Roar has been a part of Brighton's nightlife for a massive six months now, which means we have been peddling our own peculiar brand of 2-step/dubstep/house/techno every monday, for 24 weeks now.

We opened our doors with a bang for the Appleblim launch party, and since then it' s gone on and on - we've heard Jackmaster do his own karoake version of 'I Would Walk 5ooo Miles' by the Proclaimers, heard Greena's tips for the world cup about a milllion times over (we get it Dan, you're from South America and Argentina are gonna win), seen Tom Aka Roar spill soy sauce all over Appleblim's nice shirt.

We've seen Cappy fall asleep on the toilet, given Pariah his own personal 'reggae' themed hotel room (what DJs put in their riders these days...), heard about a million times over how enthusiastic Season Five's Snugfelix is for Pizza Express, how L5D feels about CD DJs (despite playing out on them regularly)

Essentially we've learnt how much I love Gin & Tonic and most importantly of all how much Nick Aka Roar loves Trim. We've also had some DJs play some actual music believe it or not, and the list of people who've featured is a varied one: Appleblim, Oneman, Brackles, Kode 9, Untold, El-B, Shortstuff, Greena, Mosca, Reecha, Pariah, Bok Bok, Hyetal, Deadboy, James Blake, Jackmaster, Shackleton, Ben UFO, Ramadanman, Pangaea, Fantastic Mr Fox, Nosaj Thing.

A pretty impressive booking history we reckon (apologies if this all comes across some what smug, but seeing as we managed to run a weekly night for 6 months without any fatalities).

However all good things have to come to an end, and mondays in Brighton will never be the same again from the end of June. Aka Aka Roar is taking a break over the summer, and returning in a more work/uni friendly format (friday nights anyone?) in September. The lineups will be beefier than ever though, so no fear on that front!

All that's left to be said is a few big-ups - out to Paul, Nick and Tom, without whom it would never have happened. Equally out to Stickie, Paste, L5d, Temple, Donga, Whistla, Dawntreader, Littlefoot, Renegade Youth, Tom Unlikely and the SeasonFive boys (Furesshu and Snugfelix) who warmed up and down for the headliners better than anyone could have asked. Last of all out to all the regulars, all of those who reached on a monday, even though it was a school night, even though they were broke - out to Phil Herbert, Cappy, Tom Loops, Sean Dubloke, Voytech, Will Bunch, Andreas, Christina (even though she had a 9am seminar on tuesdays ;), Grant, Greena and probably a whole load more who I've forgotten.

Anyways nuff' talk abou the past, what about the future? This monday LA hip-hop don Nosaj Thing graces the decks, with support from me back to back with Deadly Rhythm's Paste... and all of this for £2 before 12, as always! The week after our final monday headliner Fantastic Mr Fox is playing, with support from me and Temple.

Sweatin'

Just a quick heads up for you about a new track from Leeds producer Ghosts of Venice aka Lee Dunn aka one half of Youth Attack aka one of the guys responsible for the now defunct (but excellent) Kill The Rhythm Leeds night. Hands. Pies. A lot of.

Lee's being doing big things as GOV, teaming up with the likes of Le Principle, Jo Kira and Bobby Analog. With support from Grum and Laberge, his debut EP well and truly did the rounds, and his Shakira re-edit made Shakira cool for the first time in a while (since Hips Don't Lie??). He's also toured the US, and plays out a fair bit around the UK.

His latest production, Sweatin' is not just a great piece of disco-house, it's also music for a good cause - all proceeds from the sale of Sweatin' will be given directly to a charity called CETA, part of Braintrust. Braintrust as a charity does research into our thought processes, trying to maximise the ability of individuals to use every part of their brain at maximum efficiency, so a highly worthy cause. You can pick Sweatin' up for a measly £1 (although this is a minimum suggested donation) over at Bandcamp, so why not do so - it's a great summer anthem, perfect for BBQ's, beach parties or the club. Proper good vibes, guaranteed to get some hands in the air action.

Sepalcure - New Hotflush

Scuba's Hotflush imprint can do no wrong right new - the Scuba LP was an absolutely cracking release, as were their Mount Kimbie remixes EPs, and the upcoming Mount Kimbie album is no different, packed full of quality tracks. Their 25th release to this date comes from Brooklyn based duo Sepalcure. Their music is a tightly woven blend of tribal dub, soulful rhythms and skittery two-step vibes. Their debut release on Hotflush, the Love Pressure Ep is a skillful combination of bassey hard hitters and 90's house vocals, melding neon synths that echo Detroit techno and wooden beats that owe as much to the Berghain as they do Brooklyn.

Appleblim played for us at Aka Aka Roar on Monday in Brighton, and Every Day Of My Life sounded absolutely massive - one of the highlights of his set. Spacious atmospherics and a massive vocal hook create a truly epic rolling house track. The lead track off the EP, Love Pressure is an equally skillful combination of the styles that have made Hotflush so popular - techno, house and dubstep.

The other two tracks are no different, Down sampling the same vocal as Dubbel Dutch's recent Deep Underground tune, adding some driving, thrusting synths and broken, rolling beat.

Many people will be familiar for the EP from it's appearance on the recent Scuba vs SCB Resident Advisor podcast - and perhaps it is the dual nature of this EP that makes it so successful. The skippery, cut up vocal samples and atmospheric synths place the EP nearer to dubstep, however the rolling broken beats and the tempo place it nearer to the house/techno side of the 'nuum. The truth is this EP straddles both of these genres, making it as likely to appear in a Ben Klock or SCB set as they would a Scuba or Appleblim set.

We've talked about Melé a lot on the blog before, and with good reason - the producer has got backing from a lot of big names, with releases in the pipeline for Sinden's Grizzly imprint, an EP already out on Mixpak and a tune on Hervé's Cheap Thrills imprint.

His mixes are also worth checking out, he's got bookings all over the country, and a Ustream session I caught of his the other day covered pretty much every spectrum of electronic music.

His new mix for June is no different - kicking off with a new Joy Orbison bit that has been kicking around for a while, and is one of his best yet, the mix also covers new tunes from Braiden, whose new mix I featured here, GreenMoney, C.R.S.T, Supra1, Tomb Crew, R1 Ryders, Jack Beats, Deadboy as well as a new blend from Martelo which has been doing it big for me - mashing together intelli-wobble Fis T's Night Hunter - and a classic Wookie garage riddim.

Hope you enjoyed the mixes yesterday... got some great gems for you today!

Kicking things off with a new track from US producer Kingdom, whose Mindreader 12" was one of the finest releases of last year - 'You' came as close to trance as good music should, and the Todd Edwards remix was (as expected) ridiculously good. New bit Pathfinder comes from Rob Wonder's No Static At All Compilation, created for Scion Radio. Kingdom's offering is definitely the pick of the EP, although it's worth checking out the whole thing certainly.

Bit late on this one, but good music shouldn't be time-stamped. Township Funk was remixed about a million times in between its original release and subsequent releases and remix packages, but the Crazy P one somehow slipped me by at the time. The finest of the bunch, Crazy P drops things down in tempo and slides a sleazy bassline under that all too recognizable hook, though the hook twists and changes throughout - a nice balearic workout.

Brackles remix of Crystal Fighters is an undoubtedly large tune - searing synth lines, that classic vocal refrain and cracking drums, it's easy to see why Oneman chose this tune to end his Rinse CD, and Mishka NYC's DJ P.O.L.STYLE ups the ante by throwing the vocal from DJ Pied Piper's guilty UKG pleasure Do You Really Like It over Brackles production. A snug fit!

CRYSTAL FIGHTERS VS DJ PIED PIPER // I Love London (Brackles Remix/DJ P.O.L.STYLE Edit)

EL-B and Noodles' legendary Groove Chronicles collaboration showcased a more soulful side to the dark garage that El-B became famous for - way back in '98 they created this euphoric slice of 2-step that melded female vocals, warm sub bass and nuff sax samples, and it's still warming dancefloors today. A stone cold killer...

Last but not least, Hessle Audio's ever enigmatic Joe's latest offering Claptrap takes a ghetto leaning via Sound Pellegrino's DJ Orgasmic. The percussion heavy clap track fits perfectly with this Ludacris acapella, showing all the US producers how hip hop really should sound: dark, frantic and full of 909 action!

Lee's away in Ibiza partying this week, Bastard! So it's up to me to keep you updated this week... I shall do my best :).

First up this week is an african house mix from DJ Umb - recorded live in one take, DJ Umb's latest offering moves through deeper South African house, kwaito house and various other 4x4 leanings. Nice to see a mix with a bit more of a diverse tracklist, especially one that digs a little deeper into African house music. Some of my favourite tracks so far this year have had a proper African house vibe - particularly the Boddhi Satva Ancestral Mix of Bertrand Dupart's Ketokole and Outthere Records' Ayobaness compilation.

Next up is a slow jam mix from Well Rounded Records headhoncho Donga. Donga is the owner of both the biggest beard and the biggest record collection in Brighton (apparently...), and his Well Rounded imprint have been responsible for some great releases - Hackman's Bodies EP, Deadboy's Cash Antics Vol 1 and U Cheated, and upcoming releases are coming from Doc Daneeka, C.R.S.T. Watch out for a Well Rounded Records showcase night in Brighton in association with Aka Aka Roar later this summer. Donga's latest mix takes in the new Funkineven 303 workout She's Acid, Deadboy's R&B/Hip Hop belter Long Way 2 Go and great records from Kowton and Dam-Funk.

Steve Braiden has always been one of my favourite DJs, his Rinse show always brings the heat, as do his studio mixes. Plus Steve is one of the most talented photographers about, he seems to be the go to guy for press shots for pretty much anyone involved in the dubstep/funky/wot-u-call-it scene. His new mix is promoting Sonar festival, which takes place later on this week in Barcelona. If you are lucky enough to be heading out to Barcelona then don't miss the Numbers vs Butterz stage, and get this mix on your Ipod for the plane journey! Braiden moves from some nice house bits from labels like Dirty Bird and Night Slugs, to his own production The Alps (which has been getting play from a lot of big DJs), up into some dark 909 bits from Addison Groove, Girl Unit and Space Dimension Controller. New James Blake bit today, showcasing the more vocal side to his production that his cover of Fiest's The Limit To Your Love also uses. Blake discussed this side to his production with Giles Peterson on his recent Radio 1 interview and guest mix, which is long gone from the BBC's Iplayer system but well worth seeking out if you've not heard it.

The synths scream James Blake, but his treatment of vocals and percussion are a radical change from James' previous productions, eschewing his 2-step on PCP approach to drum programming, and his habit of throwing vocals through a million auto-tuners and vocoders, here the vocals are layered into harmonies but left largely untreated, and the percussion is so subtle as to be almost incidental. This one is all about Blake's voice, and when it's a voice that good, there's no problem with that. Blake is reportedly going to put out an entire release of this kind of thing - softer, less dancefloor friendly (if his music ever was), largely piano and vocals stuff, and this has, for me anyway, a very exciting prospect musically. Whether it will come out on R&S like the recent CMYK EP, and whether it will be merely a 12" or an EP/LP only time will tell, but whatever the format, it is sure to be worth the wait.

Edit: just read Blakes' recent Xlr8r interview (find that here), and there's a quote about this vocal release:

"The second [R&S release] will draw from recordings i did recently of

myself singing and playing piano—more introspective

and personal. i'm also working on a vocal album

of electronic production but of my (unadulterated)

voice. it's pretty minimalist in vocal arrangement, and

the production serves the voice, not the other

way round."

As far as UK hip hop goes, Alex Chase and his One Handed Music camp are absolutely killing it right now. Bullion, Tranquill and Fulgeance have all had quality releases recently, and now Paul White joins the fray with his second long player for the label. You can listen to previews of the album in full and buy the mp3's for only £6 from the bandcamp site here.

You can also cop album track Organ Therapy for free from the bandcamp, so head over there and grab that if you need further convincing! As ever with Paul White, The Purple Brain goes above and beyond simply good music - this album flows like any classic beat tape - although the Purple Brain is much more than just a beat tape. Every single note is taken from the obscure Swedish musician, S.T. Mikael, whose weird and wonderful take on pysch rock is a perfect compliment to White's beats.

In addition to mp3 downloads, OHM are offering two physical options, and as ever with the label the physical packages are the pick of the release, much like Factory Records famous Blue Monday 12" they eschew budgets for quality artwork and concepts:

Jack Beats... are back!

After months of teasing and half a dozen times that I've heard this tune out in the past 4 or so months... it's come down to a YouTube exclusive unveiling from Jack Beats themselves to promote the release of their new EP. The double-A side... Revolution/Out of Body... out on Cheap Thrills on a Slime Green Wax 12" on June 21st... and Digitally on June 28th. I'll keep you posted on this one.

Surely one of the releases of the summer, and we'll be fed up with it in a few weeks, but just for now, feast... this is massive!

Kode 9 - DJ Kicks + New K9 House production

As many of you by now know, Hyperdub label boss and all round good guy (he produces, DJs, teaches at a university level, lectures all over the world and has written a book... Hands/Pies.) has just completed the latest DJ Kicks compilation, and it is a treat - kicking off with some nice mellower house bits and moving up into more energetic funky and finally finishing off with some serious Terror Danjah/DMZ/Zomby heat (the mix from Stiff >> Mountain Dread March >> Godzilla = woiiiii).

The Burial DJ Kicks was famously never completed, but this more than satistfiies me - I highly recommend you pick that up from your local retailer, or here online on it's release date (June 22nd). In the meantime, DJ Kicks have released an exclusive new production from the man himself, a classic house production from the Hyperdub don, moving into altogether mellower and less broken beat territory for the producer. Also worth mentioning is his new mix from Fact, showcasing the man's enthusiasm for '94-'96 era jungle. Check that out over at the Fact site here.

Kode 9 - You Don't Wash Dub (Right Click, Save as)

It would be silly to mention the DJ Kicks compilation without making a big deal out of the launch party - it's hosted by London and Brighton clubnight Deadly Rhythm.
If you don't know about this night, get to know - they just hosted a Hotflush party for Mount Kimbie's album launch that blew the head off Plan B in Brixton. Deadly Rhythm soundsystem plays all over and Deadly Rhythm Soundsystem's Paste will be putting together the next mix in our Squeaky Bleeps mix series (apparently anyway... if he ever gets round to it).

The launch party takes place at Plan B on the 25th June - Kode 9 headlines the affair, with HudMo, Rustie and Paul White supporting him in Room 1, and Room 2 shifting from hiphop vibes to more of a funky/bashment vibe with Lil Silva, The Heatwave, Hardhouse Banton and Lego (Bricks).

Baobinga... Good Skanking.

One of my favourite producers of the past year is back again with the third release on his Build Recordings imprint, and this time he means business. Baobinga... this time in collaboration with Bristol's finest selection from the lower end of frequencies... Ginz and Bucharest's wonderful...Cosmin TRG.

I was a huge fan of Build's first release... Tongue Riddim. A new episode in sonic musical production that really set the tone for the sound of Bristol in 2010.
I caught a few words with Baobinga on Saturday @ Shit The Bed #14 @ Motion on Saturday. A fine display of what the scene outside of London offers today's party-goers. There seems to be something about the Bristol scene that is very unlike any other scene I've come across in the UK... It's a sense of community that drives the city, a drive that really pushes young talent and shapes it into something fruitful and promising for the future. You only have to take one glance in Joker's direction, to have an idea of what I'm talking about.

The new release featuring The Good Skank and Ruff Stuff is out now on Build Recordings. Here's the word from Build on exactly what this release is all about.

For this third release, stylishly trimmed in a delightful red hue, we have an A side whereby Ginz (of Purple City fame) and label boss Baobinga team up to create their own crunked-up take on the Purple sound. Long time collaborators, their highly accomplished production skills and well established studio rapport are immediately evident in the crunching analogue synth processing, tuffer-than-tuff hip-hop drum patterns, Timbaland-esque percussion and almost-wonky basslines... Not to mention the soaring melodic content and dynamic arrangement. One for the thugs, but also their gyal dem. And it's all about the gyal dem.

Meanwhile, on the AA (and it really is a double A), Baobinga flexes on a different tip with Romania's very own Cosmin TRG. Fresh from releases on Tempa and Rush Hour, 'I Get Ruff' was built through the swapping of files from Bristol to Bucharest and back again. Taking as a starting point Cosmin's new take on house and funky, this 128bpm smasher adds layers of Baobinga's exuberant bass and percussion, with TRG's trademark nod to classic chopped up garage vocals providing the icing on the dancefloor-friendly cake. Pure energy, but zero cheese.

You can also stream the mad tip release on Soundcloud below... Really feeling the vibe on this... you can almost tell where every sample in this tune comes from. Baobinga's buzzing bass, Ginz's hypnotic synths and snarling drums from TRG. I could be wrong on those, but it's where the soul of these tunes lie, a colloboration full of heart and soul.

Been a bit quiet on the blog recently - it's that time of year when exams start to take over, but a bit of a break in the clouds of Uni work means normal posting resumes this week - tune action from Dizzee Rascal, Wookie, Wiley & Trim and Sam Diamond.

First up is the excellent Glasswerks from Chicago Skyway - Chicago seems to be bringing the exciting music in a big way at the moment, between juke and this Acid House project from Sean Hernandez. This tune is from the Wolfgang Hair Ep (Uzuri Recordings), you can cop the whole EP on vinyl here. Glasswerks combines vintage jacking acid rhythms with fragile melodies, and is well worth checking out - it takes the spirit and vibe of classic Chicago house without ever sending too derivative, and retaining a sense of originality.

Next up is more Chicago action, this time on the 160bpm juke vibe. RP Boo is often cited as one of the pioneers of the Juke sound, and this tune is a great sample of his sound. For some reason that I'm not 100% clear on the song is under the name Arpebu, although I'm assured by Dave Quam (who's a promoter/general Juke enthusiast from Chicago) that it is an RP Boo production. Like much of the Juke stuff floating around the interweb, no real information on the song, although it is taken from Arpebu's (RP Boo???) Dude off 59th Street mix, which is well worth checking out in it's own right.

Another massive mixtape has to be Roll Deep's Trim and his Soul Food Volume 2. War Report 4 is one of the highlights of that mixtape, featuring Eski Boy Wiley on supporting vocals alongside the very talented Trimbal. In a day and age where vocal grime is floundering and the Butterz camp of instrumental bizzniss is bringing the most exciting music (for me anyway), then quality vocal grime has to be supported.

On a mellower tip, Sam Diamond's excellent Aaliyah sampling UK house track has been doing it in a big way for me in warmup sets, combining the great R&B songstress vocals with a classic xylophone melody and a nice rolling beat. Check out Sam's soundcloud here, the excellent Goldfish Riddim is well worth checking out too.

Keeping it on a housey tip, UK garage legend Wookie has (much like MJ Cole, Sticky and many other UKG heads) turned his production skills to that murky area in between UK house and UK Funky, and Gallium combines the best of those two genres to great effect. Uplifting piano riffs sit nicely alongside catchy vocal samples and a steady beat.

Last up is an excellent sinogrime remix of Dizzee Rascal's I Luv U - this remix combines that classic vocal sample with new bars from Dizzee himself and a synth that comes straight from the Orient. Who would have thought that hi-energy grime smasher I Luv U could become a mellow sinogrime roller, taking the vibes of Wiley's Shanghai and Lewi White's Chiney Chin riddim but toning everything down and creating an altogether mellower vibe.

New Music: Ikonika

Ikonika's debut twelve for Hyperdub was one of the most sonically arresting things I'd heard in a while, and her productions haven't let up - her LP for Hyperdub was similarly successful, combining the rhythms of UK funky and dubstep with a rich texture of melodies - this new tune from Ikonika is no different.

A staccato beat and bittersweet synths, this is a must listen. Coming out on Planet Mu records, who are also set to release a compilation by Chicago juke head DJ Nate, this is sure to be a big release!

Went in a slightly different direction with this one... focusing on a lot more UK Funky and some top Bass tunes. Less of the bangers and more of the Funk for this one... lots of summer tunes.

2010 is a year of many good things... but one thing that seems to be standing out more prominently than ever this year is the state of the female DJ scene. There have always been female DJs in some shape and form over the years, but never before has there been such a melting pot of talent, supporting such a diverse range of music and styles. Long may it continue!

Step up, the Brazillian beauty and all round salsa sub shaker... Joyce Muniz.

After being brought to my attention a couple of months ago via Man Recordings and her fantastic 2010 Carnival mix, which you need to check out. I've borrowed and edited down her bio from her Myspace... naughty me, yes, but it really gives you a great insight into Joyce as an artist and promoter as well as a fantastic and talented DJ with an eye for a great tune and the vibes for a party to match.

Joyce Muniz, a Vienna-based, vocalist, club promoter, producer and DJ. Equipped with musical influences of her home country Brasil, Muniz has revolutionised the European club scene with a new blend of club music incorporating everything from Afro, Jamaican, Carribean and Brazilian sounds & massive bass. Rave with prowess and passion edged in stone... World Music, you might call it.
Born in 1983 in Sao Paulo, Joyce Muniz arrived in Vienna during the mid nineties and was soon introduced to the vibrant Viennese electronic music scene. Short after her first DJ gig at the tender age of 16, she began collaborating as a vocalist with Markus Dohelsky aka Shanti Roots (Vienna Scientists) and I-Wolf (Sofa Surfers/Klein Records). In 2007, Muniz teamed up with Stereotyp for the first time and together, created the first Funk Mundial 12” “Uepa/Jece Valadao” (Man Recordings). In that same year, she and Shanti Roots started producing under the name of Monte Laa Prod and released their first 12”.
Last Year she contributed her vocals to the Cusmos (Herwig Kusatz ad Karl Möestls) track “Garoto,” which is wasreleased on the Kruder & Dorfmeister label G-stone. Joyce Muniz also did some collaboration with Flore, Buscemi and Skero. The lastest offering of Joyce Muniz is the Get Your Conga On EP (Top Billin Rec.), co produced with Shanti Roots and a remix of Malente on Shir Khan's Exploited label.

A brief snapshot at her already exploding CV, which can only get bigger and better. Featuring on the first Funk Mundial release as well, that is huge. Why have I only found out about this woman in the last few months, my life has been led very sheltered!

Anyway less of my life and more about Joyce, whose just done an awesome mix for XLR8R.... 49 minutes of pumping soca action... some damn tasty tunes I'll be adding to my collection with haste.

Howdy do... another new addition to our blossoming mix series is upon you all today. From the sleepy town tides of Redcar in the North of England comes one of the most exciting prospects for the future of House music in the UK... Attack Yourself!

What amazes me more than anything about this lad is taking into consideration that he produces (pretty damn well), DJs and one of the most diverse tastes in music I've come across in a long time... he is just 15. One-Five... Fifteen, an age at which my life involved listening to solely Eminem, Ludacris and Xzibit, and playing Gran Turismo 3. Not much to shout about is it.

If that's not enough to impress you, then maybe the fact that also produces more Techno based music under another alias by the name of Le Vamp, might just sway your opinion. I'm a huge fan of one of his earliest remixes of Phoenix, which he did last year at the age of just 14... git!

Dubbel Dutch - Throwback EP

Tuesday saw the release of one of the most anticipated releases in quite a while for me in the shape of Texas based Dubbel Dutch's new Throwback EP on Palms Out Records.
Following on from his awesome Trollsta EP, which saw a great remix from Round Table Knights, it was back to basics and a straight 3 track affair this time around.

A highlight for me, and certainly many others is the colourful and transient Deep Underground, old skool and garage influences all over this one, with that charismatic modern Bass edge.
What really impresses me about Dubbel Dutch is his drum programming... it electrifies his tracks and really brings them to life when layered with the sub bass. I have no doubts about how huge this track would sound on a well built system.

There is such a powerful relationship between the synths and the vocals in this track, it really took my breath away the first time I heard it.

Trouble & Bass... probably my favourite label about. 2010 is proving quite a year for the NYC based label fronted by heavy bass connoisseur, Drop The Lime. The recent launch of their Heavy Bass Champions of the World series of releases has already contributed towards 11 releases so far this year, and there's another six to come before the end of July... busy busy busy!

Fresh from a studio collaboration from Drop The Lime and adopted son of the family AC Slater comes Creepin... a fiery, fire breathing monster of a tune, layered perfectly with vocals from Drop The Lime and a Gothic piano solo.

It was released yesterday via Trouble & Bass and is available from Beatport, iTunes, Juno Download, Amazon and Boomkat... get on it!

Masters At Work

Got some awesome new material for you today, so sit up and pay attention carefully.

American house duo Masters At Work ruled supreme over the American house scene from 1990 onwards - today we've got two of their finest remixes for you. MAW's remix work was simultaneously miles ahead of it's time in production terms, and at the same time stand up to this day as classic house tracks. First up is their dub mix of Anane's Walking On Thin Ice. If 2009 was the year of the seasick synths (copyright Dan Hancox) then this Masters At Work mix from 2006 has to be the track that started that trend, albeit 3 years early. A rolling house beat coupled with Anane's vocals, the track wears it's grime and UK funky influences proudly, coupling all 3 genres with a skill that many producers can only hope to achieve.

Anane - Walking On Thin Ice (Masters At Work Dub)

The MAW mix of their own Nuyorican Soul project, which strived to combine real musicians and genres as diverse as latin, jazz, disco, house, funk goes for the same winning formula. This mix may come from 1996, but the beat owes as much to UK funky as the Thin Ice dub, capturing that same rolling vibe to it. Classic diva vocals courtesy of Jocelyn Brown are combined with a proper big room piano chords hook - this is pure house vibes, and it goes off in the dance big time.

As a regular booking for underground techno/electro night Transmission in the heart of Dublin, Haido has managed to form himself a wide spectrum of respect an admiration for his varying sets and strive for new music. With recent guests including the likes of Shadow Dancer, The Filthy Dukes, DJ Feadz and a live performance from none other than The Subs, Haido has experienced his fair share of high profile gigs.
Dublin is vastly becoming a shining beacon of musical culture and expression that has seen the likes of Lorcan Mak and the Schizofonics rise to prominence in the past year, and Haido is right in the thick of it all.

Mindflow... switching it up.

Recently had this top video sent to my inbox from Mindflow... a Dubstep/Drum n Bass outfit from Norway.
Now first things first, there are no huge drops to send your brain into complete meltdown or any catchy hooks that will inevitably get boring after being played too often.

However, what this track does do is stand up as a kind of social statement for what the current state of dance music is right now. I mean without sounding too elitist and underground... and instead, speaking for the majority of people's taste in today's dance scene. We've had the wobbles, they're about as cool in 2010 as crocks have ever been, and now we're going through a sprouting of 'funky' drum patterns and more hypnotic basslines. Tunes that kind of hard back to the early days of Techno, rather than the heights of Acid-House which were more prevalent in tunes during 2008 and 2009.

I've been known so far this year to begin to get fed up with the almost over-used piano melodies of this new decade (we can thank Doctor P for that)... whatever this decade is going to be called... the Teens?
Yet, I've become rather fond of this track over the past 24 hours. It's straight up, no strings attached, summer fun, and for that reason I had to give you a heads up. Come the middle of the summer I might be so sick of pianos that I'll be ready to drop them all on a Morris Morinas in a fit a rage... But for the time being, lets all go out and buy a boombox, pop a few days, go down the park and have a good old knees up... anyone with me?

Two of the finest nights in London right now have to be Dollop and Trouble Vision, so when residents for those two nights come together, along with Snap, Crackle and Pop residents, and yours truly representing Squeaky Bleeps that makes it a party not to be missed. Shakey Bismarck is taking place this Saturday at Southwark Playhouse on Shipwright Yard, a couple of minutes walk from London Bridge. The night runs from 10:30 to 3 and should be a right laugh. Seeing as I don't get to play in London as much as I used to these days, a rare gig is always a pleasure, so see you down the front! Hey all... this isn't a new contributor to the blog... it's still Lee, just under a new username as I've got a new googlemail address.

Anyway... just wanted to give you all a heads up on a new YouTube channel I've setup, by the name of JustPureVibes. Basically, it's just me posting up new tunes I'm into to help promote them a bit, and support the artists. Music with Soul and Character is the name of the game.

My first featured tune comes via a new project from AC Slater and Udachi, called 92 Eternal. They've come up with a fantastic tune, titled The Feeling, and they handed it over to their good friend B.Rich, and under his new Kastle alias, he came up with this nugget of absolute gold.

You can also head over to the Just... Pure Vibes facebook page to keep up to date with all the tunes I'll be posting... it will probably be around two tunes a week, depending on what's about and what not. A little bit of Sunday listening and a big heads up for you here. A producer I've been following for the last 6 months with great interest. He's been producing for something like the last 5 years, and has been getting support right across the board from Tomb Crew to Toddla T and Jaymo & Andy George to Sinden... who recently signed him to his new label.

One of my favourite tunes I've been rising since the turn of the year is a wee UK Funky remake of the classic No Scrubs by TLC... called Digits. Very vivid memories of my early teens and the mainstream Garage crossover I grew up listening to on a daily basis. He was kind enough to give the tune away for free on his Soundcloud a few months ago, I suggest you check it out, sharpish!

I've recently been getting up to speed on some of his earlier releases, most notably his remix of Ruffcut's Hustler after hearing Nick from Tomb Crew playing it Kissy Sell Out's recent all day party at Vibe Bar.
Something a little different from the man, a lot of energy, but a whole lot of fun. I really recommend that remix, which you can catch on Juno here and preview below.

He was also kindly asked by one of my favourite bands New Young Pony Club, to remix their new single Chaos at the turn of the new year, and he laced his 2-step/Garage/Funky stamp all over it to dazzling effect. He really worked Tahita Bulmer's vocals into his mix very well and created something of dazzling beauty but also colourful and uplifting.

This week saw the release of his new EP titled Bombay out this week on Mixpat... featuring new tunes Bombay, Flexi & And of the Sun with remixes from Heavyfeet, Nadastrom and French Fries.
Epic funky business. Bombay is definitely my favourite tune, featuring a sample also found in Will Bailey's Hustlin n' Scratchin. Flexi takes on a more Garage influenced vibe with some awesome warped bass and top vocal samples, while And of the Sun takes on a more 2-Steppy-Soca trip, the sort of thing you'd expect to hear on an Ace Ventura soundtrack. Maybe. Good vibes and a great breakdown half way through. Your pick of the remixes comes from French Fries... simply put, pure Saturday night party music.

Got a wee heads up for you today and this is a quick post as I'm realllllly busy this week, but here's a couple of great tunes from an Erol Forum friend and top lad by the name of Faisal. He suffered somewhat of a setback last year when his hard drive failed and all of his samples/production work was lost.

He's steadily been getting himself back together, and the setback can't all be a bad thing, as he's managed to come up with these cheeky tunes. Clearly he's been hard at work since the turn of the year, and with current support from the one and only Kissy Sell Out as of later tonight on Radio 1, Faisal will certainly be moving in the right direction. Congrats, and please keep up the work dude.

It's not a style that I really post often myself on this blog, but these are some top tunes. Quite a different French house take to what I'm used to... but I'm a sucker for deep rolling basslines, especially when they're accompanied by the synths on Get Down. Quality stuff... and as for Faisal's take on Soulwax's of E-Talking, vocals, vocals, vocals... I love how everything drops off slightly before the drop too, unexpected and worthy of praise. The stereo width and the drumming production on this remix is also, spot on... Festival destroyer for 2010 for sure!

Vinyl Week: Thursday

The penultimate post in our vinyl week is finally upon us - if you're new to this concept you can check out the previous posts at the bottom of this one.

On to today's post - Todd the God Edwards had to be included in this week really, the UK garage don played a pioneering role in the development of the genre, without even being in the UK. MJ Cole famously once said

'Todd Edwards started the whole UK Garage thing off without setting foot in the country. He was my biggest influence when I started making garage music.' Look Out was released in 2000 as part of the 'Prima Edizone' CD, and was one of the two new tracks on the record. Look Out channels a filtered disco vibe, marrying moody, off-kilter sounds with a sweetly aching vibe that draws you, mesmerised, into his sound. The dubplate mix does away with the vocals, drawing attention to the melodies and captivating drum programming that made Edwards so famous.

Alex Phountzi (Greenmoney, Bugz in The Attic)'s Download This! night returns to Brixton's excellent Plan B venue this Saturday for another bi-monthly rinse out, that promises to join the dots between house, bruk, UK funky, dubstep and garage.

Headlining are the one and only GreenMoney, with Seiji, Lil Silva, Smutlee, Sambalanco all also in attendance. A bit of Detroit techno for y'all today. I've babbled about Drexciya and Underground Resistance on the blog before (here if you were fortunate enough to miss that post first time round) so no need for introductions, just tunes - and Actuator is exactly that, a proper tune. Now your probably getting a little sick of me babbling on about Redlight on this blog, but I'm going to carry on for the simple fact that he will turn out to be one of the defining stories of 2010 in British dance music.

At the end of 2009 he released his massive EP, titled Lobster Boy, which was then followed up last month with one of the singles of the year... Stupid, featuring one of the best new vocalists around in Roses Gabor. He's just produced a tune with Rusko, which has been included in Rusko's debut album on Mad Decent... Massive! He's just finished a residency stint on BBC 1Xtra's In New 1Xtra DJs We Trust, to focus on a string of new projects working with the likes of Kelly Rowland, Ms. Dynamite, Wiley and further work with Roses Gabor.

He's just compiled a fantastic mix for Fact Magazine, which includes a hefty swab of new dubplates from Redlight himself... including a new tune with Dynamite MC titled Weepers that Fact forget to ID for you all. There's also Roses Gabor's new tune Love Sick, produced by Redlight, which will feature on her upcoming EP... Check that tune out, absolutely huge, sickening groove.
There are also new cuts from MJ Cole, Doc Daneeka, Ramadanman and Champion... as well as a couple of cheeky exclusive remixes and edit's from Redlight himself. Catch his very interesting take on Tempa T's Boy Off Da Ting... one which will likely become one of the most sought after dubs of the year for many DJs, I'm sure.

I've tidied up the tracklisting a wee bit and added Skream's remix of Killa Sound, which is a blatant gaping hole in the list that Fact posted. That's not a dig at Fact, as they've got a lot of work on their plate ;)... I'm just quite anal when it comes to getting tracklistings right.

Squeaky Bleeps #005 - Yeah!

Another special treat for you here with an exclusive mix from Australian prodigy Yeah!... there's something about Australian producers at the moment, and despite such a dosile population down there, they seem to churn out epic DJs like Essex does babies. It is slightly worrying, all these foreigners taking our jobs ;), but all the more refreshing when you find a DJ/Producer with as much potential as Yeah!

Yeah! was first brought to my attention a few months ago when he hooked me up with some of his remixes via his soundcloud page... since then, I've been steadily impressed with his output and the dynamics of his sound, so I asked him if he'd be up for getting a mix over to us.
Yeah!'s sound is one that I feel a lot of DJs these days strive to aim for, but always fall short in pulling it off. Big, bad tunes, with vocals to match, laced together with a precision and finese, usually only found in an operating theatre.

I'm immensely proud of this mix from Yeah!... any producers out there thinking about how to approach putting together a mix for a blog... remember to always throw in a curve-ball like Busta Rhymes' Get Down... that put a big smile on my face.

A perfect vibe from start to finish, an a banging intro, I urge you to download this mix... fantastic stuff.

Tune Tuesday II (The Saturday Version)

So many good tunes floating around the interwebs this week that I thought I'd put up another Tune Tuesday post - check Lee's first one here, and in the meantime read on for some free music.

Kicking things off with A Prince track - Mark Moore's remix of the Future takes the classic Prince track and picks things up a bit, giving the track a great housey vibe. Moore keeps the vibe of the original, but underpins Prince's vocals with some lively piano chords and a housier beat. Classics often fall foul of remixes, but Moore's effort only improves upon this classic.

Next up Lady Chann jumps on Ward 21's classic Fyah Wyah bashment riddim - this one comes direct from The Heatwave blog, who always bring the funky/bashment/dancehall heat, and this track is no different. Lady Chann rides the beat in a brand new vocal style for the UK MC, and it sounds great. Perfect for the Bank Holiday BBQs!

Next tune comes from Putsch 79's self titled LP, put out by Clone back in 2004. A driving drum beat and arpeggiated chord sequences drive alongside this mutant disco/techno hybrid. Watch out for the bassline on this one, really comes out on a proper soundsystem!

Rihanna absolutely kills it on this track, and I've been waiting for a good remix for so long (TC's D'n'B effort left me cold, as did the dubstep and hip hop mixes I've heard), but Funkystepz completely flip it here, speeding up the vocals and combining them with a classically energetic funky beat and a bassline that recalls Niche era Bassline. Also worth checking is the Assasin mix of Rude Boy who bring a dancehall vibe to the table:

UK Funky producer Murdz has just put up a new Fatboy slim refix on his Soundcloud, which is seriously worth checking out - he flips that Funk Soul Brother vocal sample completely. That bootleg isn't up for download, but other Murdz track Dem Ways Dere is, and I seriously recommend you cop that - a perfect warmup track, this has been killing it earlier on in my sets with a nice stabbing piano line and string samples coupled with a beat guaranteed to draw people onto the dancefloor.

Keeping things garagey as usual, Matthew Hiscock who we introduced to you back in March here has two new tracks for your ears. Matthew is currently living in the States but is clearly paying attention to what's going on over here at the moment, these two tracks combine the pure energy and joy that UK garage represents, combining a soulful vocal sample with a drum beat that rolls along nicely.

Squeaky Bleeps 1st Birthday Podcast

So late last month was the first anniversary of the first post on Squeaky Bleeps. It's somewhat of a milestone that we certainly wanted to celebrate with a more meaningful post than just necessarily music for masses.

We met up at Ben's house in North London to record an exclusive podcast for our fantastic readers. Sometimes when you post on a blog, it's hard to see how your writing or views are received, but over the past 12 months, every now and again I have had some great feedback from friends, DJs, Producers and general music fans from across the world. So thank you to anyone who has ever listened to, read, commented, downloaded or sent in any material to us. We may not always reply to messages we're sent, just due to the fact that I'm doing my third year of university and sometimes we've slacked a little bit with posting, but we've always listened to everything we've received. Even if it wasn't something we felt was music we liked personally, everything has helped to broaden our horizons and post up material and comment that we feel can take this blog to the next level.

First off we each played a few tracks from the last year that we've either posted up on the blog or have felt a special mention is needed, then towards the end of the podcast (just over an hour in length) we both have a wee play on the decks and play some more current sounds that we're feeling at the moment. Possibly some hic ups along the way, considering I play off timecode vinyl with Traktor and Ben was also playing some vinyl and CDs... it got interesting, but was nethertheless a good laugh, and great to meet up and share some stories and banter.

I'm in quite the upbeat mood this week, so I thought I'd hit you with some pretty heavyweight bombs... firstly starting off with a producer that is sure to be one to look out for the next few years.

Santero, more commonly known as Will Kirby, a champion of the Nottingham club scene, and a resident DJ for Stealth, who has turned his attention to producing, and teaming up with long term friend a super promoter, Pete Jordan.
Currently riding high in the Hype Machine charts is their remix of Michael Morph's Manabad... a glorious display of hypnotic synths and pounding drums to die for, this remix will be a regular in my sets for many months to come.

Next up is a big heads up from me. Scott Cooper turned a lot of heads last year with his crossover remix of AC Slater's Rock It Out, not sounding out of place in either a House, Dubstep or Techno set, it was one of my favourite re-works of 2009. Scott has been shifting his sound in the past few months, and focusing more on a intellectual touch to his tunes, something I'm all for. You may recognise Scott as part of the early Moda crew from Lincoln that also featured Radio 1 superstars Jaymo & Andy George and 2010 producer of the moment, Tom Staar. He also runs the label Jengaa, which will seeing a strong reemergence this year, so keep an eye out!
I recently had the honour of playing with Scott at Not Shy's regular Shoreditch road block, This Is Not A Rave, and he hit me up with a new production of his, which he's kindly giving out for FREE, big ups!

Finally, we have the new single from Autokratz to give away free, which features Primal Scream guitarist Andrew Innes... as soon as I heard that I almost fell off my chair, but that's just me.
The full release will be available to download from the Autokratz website on Thursday with B-Side Skin Machine and a remix from The Japanese Popstars. It's the follow up to their 2009 debut Animal, and will be followed up by an appearance as this years Camden Crawl @ Koko on May 1st... get tickets here. Keep an eye on these guys... last year their album became one of the top 10 biggest selling electronic albms in Japan, which was followed shortly by touring with The Prodigy... 2010 is set to be a mammoth year for the duo.

Howdy all... had an awesome weekend, went to Stealth in Nottingham to see Fake Blood on Friday, then spent all day Sunday at Kissy Sell Out's mad hatter's party @ Vibe Bar in Brick Lane... sunshine, good music, a BBQ... good times.

Anyway, got a great little heads up today on a great producer quickly becoming one of my favourites from mainland Europe. Rubix, not your typical Belgian DJ... he's not bent on the big warping ravey synths and anything that gets thrown down the 2manydjs pigeonhole. Think more Riva Starr spliced with Les Digitales Rhythmes, with big influences from the French House and Italo Disco scenes.

Becoming a signing last year on the Girls Love DJs imprint, has really kicked off Rubix's career, and a recent label showcase in London has helped introduce him to a raft of new fans.

I was a massive fan of his 2009 single Baiser Sur La Disco, which was originally released on Legacy Kids Club, and his remix of C-Code's Burning Up In Here. Is MJ Cole not telling us something?

I think the Civil Aviation Authority might want to have a word with MJ in the next couple of weeks, it seems the veteran producer, responsible for one of my favourite dance tunes of all time with Sincere, has some kind of foresight sense.

Next week sees the release of his hugely anticipated Riddim EP, which features a lead track titled Volcano Riddim... yes, I thought so too. How very, very interesting. The legend is clearly one step ahead of the game.

AC Slater - UK Tour

Ok, so I've badgered on about AC Slater enough on this damn blog in the last year, but here's another snippet of news that applies for everyone in the UK.
I am so happy that in the past few months that AC has given up the woeful sounds of everything wobble-fied, reinventing his sound and creating something unique with his latest release Take You featuring Ninjasonik, which came out on Trouble & Bass last week. A massive fusion of Chicago House, UK Funky, old skool vibes, and heavy-bass action with a huge spectrum of diverse remixes, most notably from Drop The Lime, Urchins, Nadastrom and Tete-A-Tete.

Yet to come later in the year is his Calm Down EP, with a great club mix featuring scratching from Craze, and his awesome remixes of Crookers' Cooler Couleur, Drop The Lime's Set Me Free, and his collaboration with Mumdance, Badness and 77Klash, titled the Transatlantic Riddim.
However, what's been really impressive of late is how he's been taking on the UK Bass sound, that's steadily getting more support over in the US, thanks to Starkey and B.Rich's new project Kastle.
Taking influences from all the scenes and creating his own take, with a lot of heart. 2010 promises to be a great year for AC Slater and Trouble and Bass in particular.

So, the key behind all this ranting about AC, is due to the fact that this week he is embarking on a tour of the UK, and is stopping off very nicely in London on May 1st for the Londinium warehouse party at Union Car Parks, which is a guaranteed road block.
The last three times AC has played in London, I've either been out of the country or unable to get out of working, aiding to the misery of my current life vacant of his beats so far.
He's just dropped an immense new mix for Mishka in aid for the tour, which starts on Thursday in Cardiff and finishes up in Nottingham a couple of weeks later.
Take a good swipe of the mix, with some top new exclusives, one especially from Trouble & Bass's newest signing Zombies For Money, which I really recommend.

Hey Hey!

Sorry for the lack of posts... had a bit of an interesting week, which I don't need to bore you with, you just gotta know it's been pretty shit. Anyway, on with a new week, and a new freshness for the blog. Some top new mixes from three of my favourite producers of the past 6 months... all with a lot of new material. Get down!

First up is Redlight and a short segment I've taken from his most recent show on In New 1xtra DJs We Trust on BBC 1xtra, from last week. Lots of new, unreleased material from Redlight himself, and a new tune from Benga. Some of the tunes featured are from his Lobster Boy EP, which you can catch from all the decent download stores. Also not featured in this mix, but released last week is Redlight's new single Stupid, featuring Roses Gabor.
It's a fantastic single which you can grab from practically everywhere, but I'd recommend Play.com... as you can get it for just 70p :D. I've also embedded the video below as well. Good to see Roses, finally getting the exposure she deserves!

Finally, we have one of my favourite labels around at the moment, Top Billin. Responsible for one of the best EP releases of the year to date in my opinion, with their Club Cheval EP, featuring Sam Tiba, Myd and Canblaster.
Formed in the mid noughties in Helsinki, Top Billin have made their name with a series a quirky remixes, mashups and re-inventions of old classics and newer (slightly shit to begin with, but made a lot better!) cuts from the more urban spectrum of things.
They've also been running a club night in the city since then, and have hosted international big guns such as Scottie B, DJ Ayres and Tittsworth. Having caught the eye of a number of producers since then, they soon turned to releasing their own material, and in the past 18 months have gained some what of a cult following the world over. With an uncanny eye at spotting that home grown underground talent, Top Billin's more recent releases have been firm favourites with me, and with Sharkslayer on board last year, solidified themselves as a force to be reckoned with. 2010 is going to be a huge year for them, and just a few days ago they stuck up their 2010 Megamix for your ears. 95 minutes of awesomeness, don't miss out!

Mix Monday #13: Vesper

Now some people might say that #13 is unlucky, but I see that very differently, because today I'm presenting you with my own mix for April. Featuring a few exclusive tracks and my own picks for tracks I think are really gunning it at the moment.

It's the second in my Future of Funk mix series, you can catch the first in the series from both Soundcloud and Mixcloud if you're feeling the first one.

As usual I take things on quite an upbeat and full on approach and then towards the end tone things down... firstly working with some new bass, then onto a more housey tip, before playing some dubstep that I'm feeling at the moment, that isn't necessarily 'wobbly', but that has an edge about it.
I've been constantly trying to get away from the wobbly and 'filthy' infested side of dubstep for a few months now, and I think the tunes I've included go some way towards that. I wouldn't have included Spanish Fly for example, had it not had some cheeky salsa-erish edge to it :).
I love odd ball tunes, and anything with a tropical kind of feel to it, gets my vote every time.

Introducing... Asian Trash Boy

Now, I'm not usually a fan of the whole over-hyped electro-rock scene that was being rinsed to death over in the US during 2009. This scene kind of lost my interest around the time that Justice got big over there, and it's slowly turned into a bit of a joke in my opinion.

I'm not trying to be a music elitest snob, but some of you must get what I mean. It was amazing when Waters of Nazareth was released in 2006, but, you know when it gets a bit overplayed, and ultimately bit boring.
When dance music turns into a head-banging mosh-fest, like say, Bloody Beetroots, then my interest in squarely lost unfortunately.

The only producer that came out of that era with any sign of credibility was Shinichi Osawa for me. It's not that I don't like that kind of music anymore, far from it. I'm always up for it from time to time, but I don't want to hear it when I'm out in a club anymore.

Anyway enough about my ranting, I just wanted to share with you a mashup from a dude I think is making the right kind of noises at the moment. Quite a full on attempt, but I feel also leads on to give us an idea that this producer from France, has a little more style and substance than most. His mashup bootleg of Bloody Beetroots and Daft Punk is spot on. They're both tracks that will be looked back on in years to come as pure classics, and he's managed to keep things away from a distortion fest and instead focus on a more musical tip. Good on him.

Had to post this... up there with Skream's best tunes he's ever produced. For pure originality and sheer brilliance. I first heard this on Annie Mac's show about a year ago then... then dropped by Caspa at my student union and then by Skream himself at the Bugged Out/Mad Decent warehouse party in London. Since then I've not heard a peep from it, until around four hours ago when Skream very kindly posted it for free on his soundcloud page. Absolute legend... expect a short interview on this track which I'll edit in on Wednesday.

Hello there... I'm sure by now you're familiar with one of our most championed producers from the UK, who goes by the name of dangerDan. No? Well if you don't, then I suggest you first, go stick your head in a blender, dust yourself down, and come back eager to learn. Firstly you shall learn, how amazing he really is, and second what you've been missing up until now.

dangerDan has been turning upside down my concept of what uplifting house music is. It has always been a quam of mine that fans of Trance music seem to live in a world where Trance music is the only emotionally motivated form of dance music that has ever been created. It's not a dig at Trance per say, but it's something I've noticed quite a lot in the 5 or so years that I've really been following dance music.

Trance may have been more soothing that Drum and Bass, more accessible than Techno, and yes slightly edgier than early House music during it's hey day in the 90s, but it certainly has a lot to answer for in the current climate. I'll leave with you to ponder what you will about my statement, but let's not dwell on that, because I'm here to gift to you a real gem.

dangerDan has shown with his latest remix of Radiohead's iconic Kid A... that you don't have to make hefty heap of noise, for a journey to become and uplifting and spiritual one.
I'm not going to be stupid and give this kind of music a genre or a label, that's not what my job is... I am the mediator, you are the audience, you are to make of it what you will, and anyone who tells you any different, is a prized gypsy fart in action.
If you are not in some way moved by this piece of musical genius, then I suggest you forever leave this blog and never return.

Ok so if you're like me... a small time DJ, slightly into production, but your pretty much at the moment, a nobody, then you've probably also been very fed up with hearing about Miami on Twitter, left right and centre all over the past weekend. So rejoice in the best of Miami WMC.

Took me a while to get together the mixes this week... spent far too long in bed on Sunday. Went to Matter on Saturday night, got dragged along to some Skins party, didn't know what to expect, but tickets were £3, Voddy Redbulls were £2.50 and Zinc was playing.... so who can refuse that... especially when he finished his set with 20 minutes of solid Jungle vibes... win much!

To finish off here's something more along the chilled route, a new mix from one of my favourite producers out there, Bomb The Bass known to many as Tim Simenon. If you're not familiar with this producer, then I suggest you stick your head inside a Piñata, so we can all take pops at you. Bomb The Bass came to light back in 1987 with his No. 2 hit Beat Dis... helping to almost single handedly usher in DJ culture over night and was responsible for on of the most iconic images in clubland... The Yellow Smiley Face. Yes, pretty damn big. I was lucky enough to be given the honour of reviewing his last album Future Chaos a couple of years ago, and it's good to see him at work again so soon, and promoting his latest release, Back To Light, his new 10 track LP, produced in conjunction with Gui Boratto. An interesting pairing none the less, and since I've not reviewed an album for quite a while, expect one on Bomb The Bass in the next week or so, it's been long overdue on this blog. Want to make you aware of an interesting wee remix he's made of Tempa T's Next Hype and Dexplicit's Bullacake, splashed with a bit of old 8-bit Tetris fun, got to love it! Now yes, Next Hype is old hat and I'm not attempting to par your elitest, up to date taste. It's truly worth your ears, believe me.
