Mix Monday #12

Took me a while to get together the mixes this week... spent far too long in bed on Sunday. Went to Matter on Saturday night, got dragged along to some Skins party, didn't know what to expect, but tickets were £3, Voddy Redbulls were £2.50 and Zinc was playing.... so who can refuse that... especially when he finished his set with 20 minutes of solid Jungle vibes... win much!

Anyway onto this weeks golden nuggets... and a lot of hot exclusives from Nic Sarno here with new cuts from Jack Beats (actually awesome), AC Slater, Sam Tiba (you need to check this tune out), Myd and Nic himself. Just under an hour of tropical bass and rainforest beats for all the family. That Jack Beats tune is madness.

To finish off here's something more along the chilled route, a new mix from one of my favourite producers out there, Bomb The Bass known to many as Tim Simenon. If you're not familiar with this producer, then I suggest you stick your head inside a Piñata, so we can all take pops at you. Bomb The Bass came to light back in 1987 with his No. 2 hit Beat Dis... helping to almost single handedly usher in DJ culture over night and was responsible for on of the most iconic images in clubland... The Yellow Smiley Face. Yes, pretty damn big. I was lucky enough to be given the honour of reviewing his last album Future Chaos a couple of years ago, and it's good to see him at work again so soon, and promoting his latest release, Back To Light, his new 10 track LP, produced in conjunction with Gui Boratto. An interesting pairing none the less, and since I've not reviewed an album for quite a while, expect one on Bomb The Bass in the next week or so, it's been long overdue on this blog. Tune Tuesday #9

Armand Van Helden - Witch Doktor (Le Vamp's Marvellous Medicine Remix)
Now, a completely new producer for you today who also goes under the name of Attack Yourself! You may have heard some of his material before, and if you're a regular poster on the Erol Alkan forum then you will know Le Vamp in one way or another as his alter ego Attack Yourself!. A pumping funky vibe, big bassline to boot... and sampling a wee bit of Afronuts I hear in there maybe... cheeky ;).

Crookers - Remedy ft. Miike Snow (Jeuce Rework)
I hadn't heard of Jeuce until recently, and testament to their persistance, sending me their material over the past few weeks that I've really warmed to their style. Remedy has definitely been my favourite of Crookers' recent material over the past few months. Animals was good, but a bit of a play now, bin later tune... and No Security never stood up a single on it's own. However, Remedy has dawned on a new Crookers' sound that I'd to see more of in the future.

Beenie Man - Dude (TLGB Remix)
Now here's is a remix to keep you on your toes, I don't think I've listened to this or for that matter heard it in a club since I was about 14 and used to go to those really tacky under 18s parties... where you saw more fish than fosters... I'll let you make what you will of that comment what you wish. Nonetheless, I still fucking love this tune... it's perfect dancefloor cheese and deserves a welcome return. This shall undoubtedly be my weapon of choice tomorrow night at my 16+ residency... let's see if we can rekindle some of that 'Birds Eye' flavour... haha.... grim.

Pitchwit - Bulletproof ft. J Dog
Something a little different for you now... some straight up post-Justice electro from Pitchwit that is really reminding me of Phantom Pt. II in places... certainly the lead riff anyway. If you think otherwise, then I'm sorry, you have been shown to door. Enough to the similarities though, as it's been a while since I've listened to something similar to Justice recently, where I've wanted to hit the play button again.
This is the first release from new label Sic Outfit... welcome to the party lads... More of this please!!!

Autokratz - Skin Machine
The London based duo return after a hugely successful year in my opinion in 2009. I was lucky enough to catch them on tour, and was really impressed by the diversity of their live show. A multitude of equipment and gadgetry... making for a top show.
Skin Machine is a wee taster of what's to come in 2010 for Autokratz with a new EP coming soon on Kitsune, titled Kick... I shall of course keep you posted.

Club Candy

Hope you all had a great weekend, I ended up spending one night back home in Dartford testing out my mate Robs' new floorstanding speakers, and fooooook was it just a weeeee bit fun hehe. Then the second, Halloween, was spent with the same people in Reading as my mate Mike was DJ'ing at a wee student halls party. Apple bobbing and drinks games aplenty... tittt was guuud, if you catch my drift ;)!
Some really big tunes coming out at the moment with Proxy and Jack Beats releasing new music, but here's a few free tunes including a banger from Crookers! peace. 320k a-plenty!


Congorock & Crookers - Sbombers
After a year of hate and banter at the expense of the Crookers... I am glad to say they are definitely back and with one hell of an almighty bang! I've been a fan of Congorock as well for some time and its a real pleasure to see them collaborating on a release that is 100% legitimately FREE! This shit be bannnging blud!


Black Eyed Peas - I Got A Feelin (Nick Sandoval's Dont Forget The Bass Re-Fix)
Yes, yes I know it's the bloody Black Eyed Peas, but DJ veteran Nick has done a really superb job here giving it a some new funk and a new edge. Bigups and expect a feature on this guy! coming later in the week!


Cavner - Springbok
A great new track here from my main man Cavner, also known as Dan Pitts, who I introduced to you a couple of months ago. He's been hard on the production lately and I think this is the pick of the bunch! Bounce and style in abundance.


Pyramid - Get Down
Hot, free release from the one and only Pyramid here who I've been a big fan of since their inception last year when they made big noise with their debut 12" Wickedest Combination/The System was released on the mighty Funkatech Records. Lots and lots of bass and a fine hook to keep you kids quiet for almost eight minutes.


Major Lazer - Hold The Line (dMon Remix)
Probably the 5000th remix of ML, but this one I'm really digging. Everything this guy churns out always makes me smile and this is absolutely no exception. Please get your mitts onto it!

Club Candy

Some big news ahead this week in the blogosphere... Ben has returned to the UK! He's currently sorting his life (email inbox) out, but shall be writing posts here again very soon! Also Noiseporn finally completed their mammoth journey to Mongolia raising money for charity.

Bonde Do Role - Sarita

I thought with it being Carnival this Notting Hill bank holiday weekend, and with there being a very special shank-up with Major Lazer in town this afternoon... some Samba was much needed

I've been a fan of Bonde Do Role ever since I bought a mad stash of promo's off ebay a few years back, in which Gasolina. Many happy times ensued. This is their first crack at the South American instiution in music. Many Kudos Kudos Kudos to them. It has brightened up my Sunday morning recovering from Eastern Electrics, which way the way was banging!

Jack Beats - U.F.O (Skullduggery Bootleg)

After a hugely impressive jackin' remix of Pon De Floor comes this slice of booty bass action from Sheffield based Skullduggery, who can do no wrong in my eyes. Opting to not tackle the mammoth task of altering the K-Hole Bass Riddim (and rightly so, leave that mother well alone), Skullduggery have decided on playing with the signature ravey theme sequence, which I heard yesterday all the way from Creamfields... even though I was actually in the kitchen as Pizza Hut in Dartford... got to love your mates ey, they know when to make you feel great! Anyway, download this immediately, purely makes you smile from ear to ear :)!

Hostage - Hangin'

Little bit of funky disco here from our main man Alan Hostage, who is simply of fire at the moment, I envy his work ethic tremendously. Seems like there's a new track or remix weekly from the Scot.

Keeping things rather fresh a well with a tasty ravey breakdown and juicy lead synths off the back of a class funky beat. There's a whole host a new material from the man at the moment so I really urge you to check out his MySpace.

Fever Ray - Seven (Crookers Remix)

Clearly one of the tunes of the moment right now... Crookers here on the remix and a weird combination. The signature 2009 ravey electro sound, but on top of a generic housey beat, which kind of makes it sound really flat until the drop. Big ups to Electric Zoo for the upload.

Big tune... play it... learn to like it... play it... love it... play it some more... get sweaty for it!

The Raged - Home Experiment [SqueakyBleeps Hot New Tune]

An absolute techno monster here from The Raged, who I introduced you to last week with his superb remix of The Arctic Monkeys.

With support from Richie Hawtin and Joe & Will Ask? I could really see this track should going places if it's picked up by the right people. I thinking Hannah Holland, Meat Katie and Evil Nine would love this kind of track. Shit is banging, and I don't often say this about techno, but hear and feel that bass! I'm playing with DeepGroove in October so I'll definitely be introducing this tune to them... hats off to you dude! Home Experiment... more like Military Secret.

The Bleeps Week #3

This week I've got some real treats for you, and some huge bangers that have been making a lot of noise on the rave circuit of late, partly due to their disgusting sounds, but mainly because they fuck with your head!

#1: Blaqstarr & Diplo - Get Off (Jack Beats Remix) [Sample]

Yet to drop on Diplo's Mad Decent label, I heard this a few weeks ago but was a bit undecided on whether it would do justice on a louder system. I was truly proved wrong at the Bugged Out! london party at the weekend, when I heard the tune played at least twice. The only way to describe how this tune feels would be to cover your head in blood and jump into a swimming pool of baby great white sharks. It's one of those sounds that is too disgusting to be real. I bum it!

#2: Proxy - Raven (Crookers Remix)

First premiered on Radio 1 a few months ago, this is another remix that I was undecided on until I heard it on a big system, the first being the same night as the Jack Beats remix above. Its a return to the Crookers I fell in love with in their remixes of The Whip's Trash and Chemical Brothers' Salmon Dance. Purely good bouncing dancefloor fun, which has surely to send the duo to new heights!

#3: Gel Abril - Spells of Yoruba (Tactic Edit)

Not an entirely new tune, its been around for a few months, but its the power of it when placed with the right tunes that can transform that good set into something special. This edit's more techy synths add to the already minimal feel, which take you on a real sensual Journey.

#4: Don Diablo & Example - Hooligans (Noisia Remix)

I may have just pinched this from the Noiseporn dudes, but I really could not resist. It's not typical Noisia as this is a bit more Housey than their previous DnB and Dubstep work, but it's really caught my eye as something oddly melodic, including samples from Justice's D.A.N.C.E.; I can't really say anything more than, what a banger!

#5: Boys Noize - Starter [128 bit]

Finally after months of waiting we are finally being treated to new Boys Noize material, which has been premiered in his DJ sets over the past couple of months. Starter is due to be released on his label on June 22nd with Jeffer on the B-Side, and the new album is aparently due to follow at the end of the year. I tell you, this tune is fucking unreal! It makes Justice and Daft Punk look like their still in kindergarden.
