GreenMoney are a duo hailing from West London, made up of Alex Phountzi from Bugzintheattic and Leo Greenslade of yOyO fame. They've been producing together since 2008, and have achieved some amazing things since then - remixes of Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Yo Majesty, Terry Lynn and Busy Signal and Amp Fiddler on labels like VP, Domino Records, Square Peg and Data. They share a love of black music, and their tunes have a definite UK funky feel to them, with their Kid Cudi mix showcasing stabs of menacing hip hop horns, and a rolling, catchy tribal drum beat.
Their Ministry Of Sound radio show goes out every Sunday from 10-11 (Listen to the latest one), and the track listing for their last one was pretty much a collection of all the tunes im loving at the moment. On April 3rd they're supporting Chemical Brothers, A-Trak, Joe Goddard, Scratch Perverts, Riton at Fabriclive.
They've just finished a couple of new mixes, one of Gantman's legendary ghettotech tune Juke Dat Girl, that will be coming out on A-Trak's Fools Gold label.
The second new mix is of Twizzle's Skydiving, and it's a big one - high pitched garage style vocals, a nice wonky bassline and a super catchy piano riff.
Their Busy Signal Remix is another classic - gunshot samples, an insanely catch rolling drum beat and Busy Signal's vocals creating another dancefloor banger.
The GreenMoney boys have just finished a new DJ mix as well - showcasing all their productions so far.
If your feeling the tunes, then definitely try and get down to Alex from GreenMoney's next night: it's called Download This, and the next one should be absolutely MASSIVE, its an Easter Special with Shy FX, Tittsworth (who apparently destroyed Chew The Fat the other week) and yours truly, not to mention Alex himself.
