Living On The Edge of the Night

Trying out a new feature today on Squeaky Bleeps - every Friday I will be posting up my picks for events across the UK - probably specialising in Brighton and London as those are the cities I know best. Kicking things off with events for the weekend from the 19th - 21st.

Friday 19th January

Big Chill Presents Radioclit (LDN)
Where: Big Chill House, Kings Cross

Who: Radioclit, Doc Daneeka, Greena, Girl Unit & Oliver Rant

Tropical house + pop dons Radioclit are joined by Night Slugs fam Greena + Girl Unit, UK Funky maestro Doc Daneeka (Fabric) and Oliver Rant, who rolls in the same circles as Julio Bashmore in Bristol.

Hessle Audio, Room 3 @Fabric (LDN)

Who: Ikonika, Ben Ufo, Ramadanman, Pangaea, Bruk

We're big fans of Hessle Audio here at SB, they do things proper, and all 3 of the label bosses (Rama, Ufo and Pangaea) really know how to lay down a proper DJ set. They're joined by Ikonika ahead of her upcoming long player for Kode 9's Hyperdub imprint, with support from Bruk (whose warmup mix can be found in our Mix Monday post here. Ignore the room 1 & 2 lineps, all about room 3 this time.

Foundation Album Launch Party (BTN)

Who: Breakage, Shy FX, Redlight, Newham Generals live PA of 'Hard'

Drum and bass and dubstep producer Breakage debuts tracks off his new album 'Foundation', which contains guest appearances from Burial and Newham Generals. Jungle producer Shy FX is joined by Redlight, a new name on the crack house scene.

Norman Jay MBE (BTN)
Where: Audio
How Much: £8 advance
Who: Norman Jay, Pablo Contraband, Affy & Ali

Jay was an early figurehead of reggae in the UK, his Good Times Soundsystem is legendary. Alongside Giles Peterson he pioneered acid jazz.

Jupiter Rooms Presents Casionova (MANC)
Where: Deaf Institute
How Much: Free before 11, £4 after.
Who: Casionova, Oscar Wildstyle and residents

Cyberdance records label chief brings his own brand of italo, expect anything Egyptian Lover to Metro Area or Richie Hawtin to Chicken Lips.

Saturday 20th February

Foals DJs (LDN)

Who: Foals DJs + Residents

The quality of a Foals DJ set can be proven by the remixers the band has chosen for their new single - Mount Kimbie, Cosmin TRG & Deadboy.

SOL Winter Sessions Present Riva Starr (BTN)

Who: Riva Starr and Schtumm DJs

Riva Starr's quirky brand of house is not worth missing, check his new LP 'If Live Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade' too.

Doctor's Orders present Skinnyman live (BTN)

Who: Skinnyman live, Spin Doctor & Rusty Ryan

UK hip hop MC Skinnyman's own blend of political and humorous bars makes this rare appearance a real treat - residents join him with their usual party starters, soul breaks and hip hop treats.

Deviate 4th Birthday (NEWCASTLE)
Where: World Headquarters
How Much: £8 advance, more on the door.
Who: Roska, Brackles & Mosca

UK Funky main man Roska's upcoming LP is a very exciting prospect, and his sets are no less so - joining him is Blunted Robots' Brackles, whose sets are not one to miss. Mosca is another member of the Night Slugs fam doing it big these days - his Square One EP launched the Night Slugs label and his sets are a melting pot of bmore, ghettotech, 2step, UK funky, juke and all things bassy.

Sunday 21st February

Bloggers Delight present Simian Mobile Disco (LDN)
Where: Lock Tavern

Who: Simian Mobile Disco, Braiden, Skull Juice, Casper C

Simian Mobile Disco, having just curated a night at Matter, play an exclusive DJ set in this unbelievably intimate setting - expect disco, techno, house and all things in between. Rinse FM DJ Steve Braiden provides support, make sure you check out Steve's Detroit techno mix for an idea of what to expect, although a whole lot more than just Detroit sounds will be on offer. Amazing lineup for the top room of a North London boozer!
