Today, I've got a really great treat for you all and an introduction to Sam Sampson AKA Baobinga, a DJ/Producer from Manchester who some of you may recognise from his long lasting partnership with Breaks and Garage DJ I.D., who together remixed AC Slater's banger Vertigo and put out one of the albums of 2008 in Big Monster.
They both run the blog bassmusic.com and are appearing at this years' Glade Festival in Winchester, Hampshire; but back now to Baobinga.
Sam isn't entirely new to the scene, in fact his first official release was a 12" on Plastic Raygun way back in 2002 entitled Nukka. Since then he's released orignals and remixes on Fusetrax and Cyberfunk Records as well as being featured on three different Fabriclive albums; Tayo's, Freq Nasty's and Freestylers'. Last year he was signed up and released a track on Trouble & Bass entitled State of Ghetto Jackin', along with a remix of an Aquasky & Drummatic Twins' compilation on Aquasky's Passenger label.
Having toured all over Europe in the past few years, his profile will certainly rocket over the summer when performing at Glade with I.D., and you can catch him @ The Urban Nerds party @ 93 Ft East this month with Jack Beats, Mumdance and entrants from the DMC World Championships
His sound has changed some what over the past couple of years; switching his attention solely from the Breaks and Dub (that's Dub, not Dubstep) scenes to focus more of his attention of the rising new Grime scene, including its crossovers with the new UK Funky scene that Ben has far more knowledge of than me, so I won't go on. Instead here's a few of the man's tunes including a great mix that was featured over at Mad Decent at the turn of the year.

Madox - Duckalicious (Baobinga's Thugalicious Remix)

Baobinga is awesome & his riddim selection is sick. You've forgotten to mention his crazy crunk / hip-hop / bassline collab with 30hz - The Body Snatchers! There are some amazing remixes of those tunes knocking about as well.
ReplyDeleteHe's also playing at The Westbury on June 26th with Kidda and Leatherhead for Angelbreaks.co.uk's launch party.
Ahhhh.... I've seen that remix about but never had a listen, my apologies! I love 30hz!
ReplyDeleteCheers for the feedback though, always nice to hear :)
