Here Come The Flow... Aquasky are back!

Aquasky, one of the most influencial artists of the entire Nu Skool Breaks scene for me, have recently turned their attention to 'the other scene' as some breakbeat heads like to call it. I am of course talking about the bass, fidget/dubstep, u-know-what-I-mean scene. Although, Aquasky haven't dived straight in and gone all hammer and tong without some thought, nit picking at the best tunes being put out onto blogs these days. They've actually got a pretty unique sound going on, and it doesn't completely stray from their breakbeat roots, something that has really pleased myself :D. Dipping into the old Big-Beat scene (BIG-BEAT FTW!) they've managed to even grasp some reggae influences from the old Dub scene and incorporate them into their own new sound.

In the past I've been very puzzled as how to pronounce this trio's name, saying it Aqwass-Kee. However, I was finally put out of my misery after the first 3 minutes of this amazing new mix as it is indeed pronouned Aqua-Sky. Although I have also been informed recently that Aqua Ski, prounced the way I said Aquasky is an unkknown pseudonum of the trio. Learn something new every day I support

Anyway back to the music now, with an amazing mix I've been banging out all weekend... cop a load of this!

Finally a summer mix to be proud of...

Now you dudes best appreciate this if you haven't caught it yet, but I'm writing this post from inside Dixons at the duty free inside Gatwick's South Terminal... so appreciate this dedication to my posting! Anyway...
Its been a little while since Palms Out unleashed their new mixtape series Sounds of Summer unto us, but until now most of the artists (no offence intended) haven't really taken to the idea of a "Summer" mix, its been more of a promotional tool for their summer gig schedule... until of course the masterful Urchins (contributor to the famous blog) stepped up to the plate and delivered their slice of summer goodness.

Here, reveal in the beauty of it... it is class!

I leave you in the very capable hands of Ben... that is of course when he recovers from Glastonbury, which could take until Friday knowing him!
T'ra!
Hey a little while back I introduced you to a dude called dMon, and electro DJ/Producer, hailing from the hills of Scotland who really impressed me with his smooth mixing style and awesome percussive production. I've got a sweet new remix from the dude for you here, a remix of Rye Rye's (of Count & Sinden's Hardcore Girls fame) new tune Bang.
A huge effort from the man that I suggest you check out!

Unidentified Frequency Oscillation

Well it's finally been announced... probably the most anticipated single/EP release of the year so far for me as far as rave music goes for. Over the past year or so, I've grown to absolutely love Jack Beats, but everytime I try and see them DJ, something happens and my plans end up being quashed. The most recent one to date was Spectrum @ Matter, the Friday just gone, where Matter cancelled NAPT & Jack Beats, along with Myles Dyson, who were scheduled to play in room 2, because they weren't sure on the turnout. Anoying yes!

Anyway... Jack Beats first ever EP is to be released on Cheap Thrills on July 20th, named UFO or Unidentified Frequency Oscillation (K-Hole Bass Riddim as I found out earlier this week, which will be the title track. There is also a VIP Mix of their tune Get Down, which was previously only available as a rough original mix from the unmixed version of Herve's Ghetto Bass 2CD compilation album, and then a third track titled Labyrinth, which Kissy Sell Out played on Radio 1 on Thursday night.

I must also point out that Kissy did a wonderful job that night despite the news of MJ coming through the news waves. Despite being a DJ/Producer and Radio DJ, as a Radio Journalist myself I was very impressed with the way he handled the situation and his handover to Newsbeat. Well done sir, even if you did sound very emotional delivering the news to all of us. You're tribute to him featuring Man in the Mirror was felt by many!

Anyway, here is details of the UFO EP which you can find from this link!
Please get on it and support the amazing work the pair have been doing over the past couple of years, they truly deserve some praise in my opinion!

"You were such a PYT... catching all the lights!!!"

Ok, so I'm not really going to get into the whole MJ thing, I think I say it for a lot of people when I say "He'll be missed". However, rather than acting like some kind of celeb gossip column or like the endless array of blogs out there spreading his original tunes once again , causing more internet panic than an outbreak of swine flu, I thought I'd link you to a few good remixes of his material, in keeping with the dancey spirit, seeing as it is now officially the weekend! To start you off I thought You'd enjoy this...

Hahaha... took me a while to source this but I knew I'd find it! that mash-up is the stuff of legend... I don't think there is a 320 version available anywhere however though, sorry! Anyway here's the rest of the ones I think are worth a mention! Also thanks to Melting Wing on the Erol Alkan forum, who via the forum linked me to this top pic ;). Enjoy the rest of the tunes...

I'm quite impressed I put them all in alphabetical order hehe!
However, the all time best MJ remix has to go to the one and only Bushwacka. I have listened to this more times than I care to imagine in the last couple of years, it's a certainly the best one out there for me :)... keeping things original but pumping!

Then there is the epic D.A.N.C.E by the legends Justice, which was written by the pair in tribute to the great man. Many didn't actually get this until they told everyone, but if you listen to the vocals you can understand exactly what they are talking about!

and finally of course, no blog post about the great man is ever complete without the epic Cheap Thrills... Herve we love you dearly and if you do not play Cheap Thrills tonight @ Matter, then I will hunt you down and burn you on a stake then deliver you to Sinden's house inside a meat freezer after of course I have stolen all of your DJing secrets from your mind using Uri Geller!

I hope you all have a great weekend and just a pre warning I'm going to Magaluf on Monday with my lads from secondary school for a wee holiday and Ben probably won't be back from Glastonbury until Tuesday evening... but I will schedule a few posts for the week that I'm gone so don't worry ;).

I thought I'd end on a solumn note, and a lovely video that I was linked to via the Erol forum once again... Its a fan video with 'P.Y.T.' in the background and I think it sums up the great man wonderfully I think!

Beat Assassins - Urban Electro Mix

Ok so it's Wednesday afternoon and I've nothing better to do than blow out some rotten beats through my speakers from a mix I found last night, and I thought it was only fair to share it with you! It is my pleasure to present you this fine mix by one of my favourite breaks producers out there at the moment Beat Assassins.

Hailing from London they're probably best known for their Urban Electro Project releases on Mofo Recordings, which have had many in the breaks scene looking over their shoulders at their fresh new sound incorporting hip-hop into ravey beats. They've even had one of their tracks, the epic Put Em Up' remixed by breakbeat superstars NAPT.
This fine mix manages to cram an array of broken beats, rave, wobbley basslines, dubstep and even some drum and bass in just over an hour of goodness. The best bit for me is the mix from Raven into Zinc's Killa Sound... that would go off!

Tracklisting:
1. Beat Assassins / Direct Hit VIP / UEP Part 2 / Mofo
2. Beat Assassins / Put Em Up / (NAPT Remix) / UEP Part 3 / Mofo

Nathan C Artist Feature

Today I want to introduce to you a little fellow I've been a fan of for quite a few months now after Pete Tong gave me a heads up to him on his Radio 1 show back in January. Oh and bonus! He's just been signed to one of my favourite labels out there, CR2, which is also home to the likes of the three deck wizard legend Carl Cox, house prodigy Mickey Slim and the one and only Popof, who released one of my favourite tunes of last year on CR2, Alcoolic.

However, today I'm here to talk about Nathan C, new blood in the scene whose been receiving a lot of love for his remix of Lily Allen's Everyones At It with Eddie Boy. However, that's just a precursor to his own work, which is seriously earth shattering stuff. I'm quite a fan of his tunes IKE and Make Me, which you can check out on his MySpace. They're very dark yet still accessible to the average technophobe and remind me of the everything good about Dusty Kid spliced with Lutzenkirchen. It seems the techno world of Berlin is infecting the rest of Europe in a really positive way with producers like Riva Starr, Noob and Adam Shaw really shaking things up.

I've also priviliged enough to give you a taster of things to come from Nathan, with an exclusive 320 version of The Trouble With Me, Nathan's take on the legendary track by Black Legend released back in 2000 as a cover version of the original classic by Barry White and Ray Parker Jr. There's the epic video of the original blow and of course the all important link to that MP£ mother below, which is ready for you to gobble up. To sum this tune up in a short sentence isn't really possible, you just have to imagine yourself @ Matter, at around 4am with those pounding floor strobes complimenting that savage kenetic bass I bum so much and everything starts to make sense.

As ever if you like what you hear then please get over to the artist's Beatport page and support them in the best way there is, but shoving some pocket money into their piggy bank's, because we could all do with some in these current times!

Dexter's laboratory

This laboratory is definitely ready to blow shit up... and guess what! There's not a single Dee Dee in sight to mess things up.

Dexter are an experimental techno/house duo from Chicago who've been making tunes for a number of years now... They're first release was back in 2001 on Jenetic Records, a 12" by the name of Pan Galactic (not to be confused with the version from BBC's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy), which is somewhat of a vinyl junkies' collectors item I hear.
Then in 2004 they released their debut EP titled Connections Yeah! which was released on KGBeats, the label that they have been signed to til' this day. They also released a new single last year, which was their first MP3 release titled Vanilla Coke on KGBeats.

We've got a great treat for you in the form of three new tunes by Dexter that are currently getting support from Fabric resident and tech-house mastermind Terry Francis. The three tracks make up their newest release, the Waistland EP, which was released in May on KGBeats. You can grab all of the tracks below in 128bit quality, but please if you like what you hear, head over to their beatport page and support the fine work they're doing.

Dexter - Eye NVU
The first Eye NVU plays upon a lot of percussive might and subtle layered synths that are broken up by the dark melodic vocals. Certainly the kind of music I could see being part of a Layo & Bushwacka! set. There's an interesting break down at around 3:15, which sweeps up and down accompanied by the vocals. I'm reminded of touches of early Crystal Method at 3:30, Bad Stone springs to mind as the tune takes on a whole new direction to the close with filtered synths and deep bass that rise and rise to an epic ending.

Dexter - Waistland
The second in this release is a far more serious affair, with a deep beat and uplifting vocals. It seems Dexter's passion is really shining through on this track. For me its the strongest song in the EP, its poignant and catching, but I do feel the percussion can be at times overbearing, maybe a touch too fast and slightly takes away some of the punch that the vocals deliver. A little more variation would be easier on the ear perhaps, and you're always expecting there to be some kind of a subtle piercing breakdown that never comes.

Dexter - Nexus
For me, as the song opened and that crunchy, snarling bassline cut in to the frame I could tell this was going to be my favourite track out of the three. Every sound works so well together, and despite there being a lot of percussion it barely affects the final package and each sequence blends into each other perfectly. The exact translation of the word 'Nexus' refers to a group, a link or a tie of some sorts. It sums up how well this track has been introveniously weaved together. It's crying out to be given a beefier remix.

Dubbed Out w/ TC, Caspa & Matty G

Hey peeps... got a great heads up for you all...

Next Saturday @ The Loft in Maidstone is the next installment of Dubbed Out, the increasingly popular new night which along with Spank! makes up the 666 presents... revolution being fronted by House producer Matt Cox and Twisted DJ Liam Kelly. The pair front a number of other nights in Maidstone including 'The Kids are Sick!' @ The Loft, and also 'Twisted' & the new DJ showcase 'Hey DJ' @ Source Bar due to launch soon.

The next night will be on June 27th and will feature Drum and Bass legend TC. Up and coming producer Raffertie was scheduled to perform also, but he has now been replaced by Dubstep superstar Caspa to keep the kids happy, and Caspa is no small fish either as we all know
However, the real treat for me is a special one off UK set from Dub Police addition Matty G who hails from Santa Cruz in California, USA. It just so happens he's DJing @ Fabric on the Friday night... which sums up a very good booking if I do say so myself.

Please get along to The Loft and support the great work that Matt and Liam have been doing over the past few months. This coming Saturday (20th) sees the next Spank! with A1 Bassline, and over the summer the likes of Pendulum, Rusko, Jack Beats, 2 Bit Thugs, Mightyfools, 16 Bit and a Live performance from the Audio Bullys.

Got some amazing content coming your way over the next few days including a feature on Matt Cox and a hot new DJ duo hitting the Kent scene soon... watch this space;)!

Weekly News

We've not had a weekly news post for quite a while, partly due to my busyness getting spending money for my holiday, and Ben DJing constantly, but for this week... here it all is!

First up is the official music video for Myagi's new track Heat, which ben kindly informed you of on Monday... it's a corker, depicting scenes from the Cold War and nuclear weapons tests during the 1960s and 70s with some amazing editing from Liss James over at Reverse Panda.

___________________________________________________

One thought I had yesterday as I trawled through past posts, was thinking there's not been much of a focus on promoting nights in and around my local area, something I did want to do when I set out this blog. so I'm going to start rounding up all the nights out in and around the SE London/Kent area that I feel are trying to push musical boundaries, and through hard work prove they're a successful venture.

First up is Dirty Pint, a club/live event that runs fortnightly and aims to bring the people of dartford quality live music/dj's. Fronted by Seany Bizzle (aka YesSiOui), the night was setup to develop and revive a local live music scene of Dartford, Kent by bringing people music from spanning a variety of genres and backgrounds. It's a great place for decent local acts to get a chance to play alongside some of the countries hottest prospects and future stars.
Sean says:

"I heavily focus on bringing a massive amount of diversity to our nights, we want to provide something for everyone. I suppose we would be labelled as an 'alternative' clubnight, but you're likely to hear our DJ's playing anything from indie to electro to fidget to DnB to Dubstep..etc. Our main priority is making sure the people who come have a great time and want to come back again and again. Dirty Pint exists to bring you a quality of a London clubnight without the hassle of travelling into the city and spending a fortune. If quality is on your doorstep, why not make the most of it? People are begining to realise that now, and we're getting busier and busier with every event. I'm booking bands/artists/dj's - left, right and centre. This is a great boom-time for the UK's local music scene, and Dirty Pint is here to make it even better.

Sean has also sent us in an exclusive mix, which he emphasises was made with 100% DJ hardware (his decks and hands) and no software, of course besides maybe Audacity to record it into ;). A sterling tracklisting also I must admit, I'm a huge fan of that South Central remix and especially Don Diablo's stirling rework of Example.

Tracklisting:
1. Walking on a dream (south central remix) – Empire of The Sun
2. Warriors Dance (south central remix) – Prodigy
3. Apocalypse – Chewy Chocolate Cookies
4. Hey Today – Wonderman
5. Everyone’s a DJ (Edu K mix) – Act Yo Age
6. Rich Girls (A1 Bassline remix) – The Virgins
7. Gal Dem Na Like Me (A1 Bassline Remix) – Quemists ft Wiley
8. Girl Can’t Dance (Don Diablo rework) – Example
9. 18-30 (Elektrons remix) – Reverend and The Makers
10. Disco Sirens (Boy 8-Bit remix) – Midnight General
11. So Many Roads (Herve remix) - Example

Also very stirling is the fact that I will be representing Squeaky Bleeps and laying down some sick beats and vibes at the next Dirty Pint, which takes place this Friday at Bar Mondo, Dartford, Kent, which also features a special guest DJ set from up and coming band Rochelle, whose debut single Chin Up recieved Radio 1 play during the build up to it's release.
Please come down and support the cause! All the details can be found here...

Today saw argurably the most popular blog out there at the moment, Palms Out Sound, finally launched their new radio show on the increasingly popular online station/blog TheHype.

Also from Palms Out have been the second and fourth editions of Palm Out's Sounds of Summer mixtape series from Sidechains and A1 Bassline. It's one I did with did with Aidan off the Erol forum - a sound bloke, who DJs a bit, and has an ridiculously extensive knowledge of all things bmore, ghettotech, Diplo & Mad Decent.  We just threw songs back and forth at each other and the conclusions were inevitable - Jay Z should be included in every set and major props for the last minute 10CC throw-in.  Have a look at Aidan's blog

The Heat

Got a fresh tune for you today from veteran breaks producer Myagi - his new song is called The Heat, and it's an absolutely massive one - it's been getting support from people like Utah Saints and Orbital - and it's a proper peak time banger - with lashings of mangled breaks and chunky basslines, this is really killing it on the big electro house tip. Not only can you download the radio edit below, you can also get the parts if you fancy giving a remix of it ago:

If you're feeling this, and I'm sure you will be, make sure you head over to Beatport here and cop the full release - flip side 'Fireball' is equally sick.

The video is well worth checking too - properly well done, with awesome use of old clips and really well synced with the music.

Stupid Fresh Artist Feature

Got some top summer tunes action for you this week with the masters of New Funky House (I mean actual funky house, which is nothing to do with the current UK Funky scene).
They cross-over in ways with the fidget/crack/wonk/whatever-you-want-to-call-it scene, but I find they're beats a lot more funky than wonky.

Stupid Fresh are Tod Hodge and Chris Elliot from somewhere in the UK, I've not been able to find out exactly where and they've previously released tracks on Vacation, SoulCandi, Freek and Micky Slim's label Bombsquad Records; as well as having a track featured on Ministry of Sound's Electro House Session.
They've not exactly new to the scene, and where very prominent in 2008 with a series of hot releases that turned heads from many areas of the house scene, including Get The Fuck Up featuring Stella MC, Stupid Theme and Pump and Flop. They're also well known for they're remixes of Nick Supply's Hiznhiz, Alex Schmitz's Beat Goes Boom and Micky Slim's Hit The Club.

I've stuck a couple of tunes below that I shouldn't be in trouble of informing you of as they've already been uploaded onto the net by other peeps. However, if you do like they're material then I really emplore you to head over to their beatport page and purchase some of they're remixes from this year, and they're most recent release The Sexual Peanut, which is the best name for a tune I've heard in a while.

They've also recently just finished they're newest mixtape in time for the summer festivities to begin, filled with some juices beats and basslines.

Tracklisting:
1. Stupid Fresh & Stellar MC - Not Gonna Stop (Final Version)
2. Rockwell D - Plain Loco
3. Wongo - Feel Good (Nick Supply & Slidzik Remix)
4. TJR - Good Evening Chicago (Klaus Hill Remix)

The Devil's Water

Camden Canal at 5am  - The Devil's Water... I'd certainly not drink it.

On the way back from a night out recently a combination of TFL's absolute failure and an earlier sunrises than I'd anticipated meant that I decided to walk  along the canal for longer than I do normally.  This just so happened to coincide with my Iphone (on shuffle) putting on  Rennie Foster's Devil's Water.  After a long night of aural assault, the housey beat that kicks Devil's Water off was not what I was really looking to listen to - but I was too tired too turn it off, so I walked on and just as the vocals came in at 1:55 I rounded the corner to the sun rising and the duck you see in the photo above - it was one of those 'film' moments where everything lines up perfectly and a moment of time is crystallized for ever along with a piece of music - maybe not as impressive as Jim Morrison soundtracking Marlon Brando's sunrise in Apocalypse Now, or as Ian McCulloch soundtracking Jake Gyllenhaal's post apocalyptic visions, but it was something. And probably more to do with how amazing the song is than anything else.  Devil's Water was released last year on Rebirth Records - and if I had a chance to redo my end of year charts after that moment, then it would have featured very highly.  Listen to it below, or head over to Beatport and support one of the most suprising and innovative house releases I've heard in a very long time!

Luckism - Greasy EP

Now when I started this blog, the plan was to use it as a release for me from the stresses of university. Something I could work on in my spare time, because I love writing about music and getting more people in the know of DJs and Producers who truly deserve more exposure for the work they are doing. It never dawned on me that I'd have DJs asking me if they'd like to write about them... I always imagined it being the other way around... me asking them if they would mind if I upload their material and write about it.

However, just that has happened, I'm starting to get enquiries for the little bit of work I'm doing, and it's brilliant. Although I don't want to dawn on that fact or boast about it... let's just get back to the damn music... it's why we're all here isn't it!

Jamie Shaw aka Luckism is a DJ/Producer hailing from Barnsley, which is about 10-15 miles north of Sheffield, for any of you with a weak grasp of geography. Specialising in House of the Jackin' kind, think Stupid Fresh, 2 Bit Thugs, Will Bailey, Matt Cox. The kind of House that thumps and pumps through your body leaving you nautious and shaking at the knees.
He's very very very kindly (much respect!) sent over to us his new EP Greasy, which he's giving away to you exclusively free of charge.

He's also sent us over a little promo mix of some of the tunes he's feeling right now that I thought was quite a top notch piece of work... with a very cheeky little intro!

The Bleeps Week #4

Morning all... how everyone is having a good week... not only is the economy looking like its recovering (finally) but that Ronaldo tosser looks like he's finally decided to deport himself, rejoyce!
Some really good nights on up town this weekend with the Scratch Perverts album launch party @ Fabric tonight, Markus Shultz playing @ Ministry,
got some real bangers for you this week that I've been tearing my sub to shreds with this week.
Some seriously crunkin' wobble action here that twists and turns into absolute dancefloor carnage, taking Santi's collab one stage closer to crowning Major Lazer as surely the act of the year. I just need to get me some 320 Pon De Floor action in my life. It lacks some deeply!

Well RM's tech-house banger Spraycan may be currently destroying clubs the world over right now, but his newly released tune has been given a much needed make over from techno's ghetto boy Riva Starr. There's one minute sound on this tune I absolutely bum, it sounds like an elastic bang being pinged against something, put with the cut out vocals is makes for a really fresh new sound.

Apologies on the low qualityness of this, but I doubt anyone has this is in anything above 96k at the moment. I will say this though, having heard it out on a big system a couple of weeks ago I can honestly say, what a rootin' tootin' ridiculous tune! This is going to be big!

Here is a little remix/edit from a dude who calls himself Luckism who has sent us over something really special that we want to share with you tomorrow. I've given it a wee Beastie Boys vocal on the drop first and some pans to give it a little edge, a better more polished version in 320 shall be on the way to you next week ;).

Finally here's a simply amazing Drum and Bass tune that I've been a huge fan of in the past few years. It's only been made available on Vinyl on Diluted Recordings, and I've only been able to gain a low quality version in MP3 quality, but seriously get locked onto this!
Possibly the best intro song to a DnB set there is.

DJ Craze in the mix!

Now it's rare that a DJ with such a huge global cult following and reputation takes the time out from his busy schedule and work to solely focus on a solid mix that showcases not only his talent as a DJ (the scratching alone on Jack Beats' remix of This Kiss is enough to wet my pants in 2 seconds), but also his increasingly eclectic music selection, which has given him such a wide scope of love from the rave scene in the past couple of years. He's just posted up a sublime 20 track-33 minute mix on his website for free download, which you can grab below... There's some real gems on there and some raw dubstep tracks I've not heard of before at the end.
Tracklisting:
1. Human Resource - Dominator (Herve's Big Bolder, Rougher Tougher Remix)
2. L-Vis 1990 - Untitled Groove
3. Kill The Noise - Roots
4. Major Lazer - Pon De Floor (Afrojack Vocal Version)
5. Lenka - Trouble Is A Friend (Nadastrom’s Wishful Dub)
6. Kissy Sell Out - The Kiss (Jack Beats RMX)
7. Depeche Mode - Peace (Herve’s Warehouse Frequencies Remix)
8. Boltan - Creepy (Mightyfools Remix)
9. Zinc - Blunt Edge (Unintentional acapella)
10. Mark Daniels - Hot For Pop (Daphutur RMX)
11. Hostage - Special Brew
12. Major Lazer - Hold The Line (DZ RMX)
13. La Roux - Bulletproof (Foamo Dubstep RMX)
14. ? - Siren VIP
15. The Streets - Blinded By The Lights (Nero RMX)
16. Phatcat & DZ - Shadows
17. 12th Planet & Datsik & Tealong - (Open Your Eyes + Riddle Of Steel)
18. Joker & Jakes - 3Klane (L-Vis 1990 Dubble Step Edit)
19. Buraka Som Sistem - IC 19 (L-Vis 1990 RMX)
20. Razor Gang - Blackflower

I was lucky enough to catch him headline Room 2 @ Fabric back in February for Plump DJs' Headthrash, but for anyone whos yet to witness the master in action then he's headlining the Scratch Perverts album launch party @ Fabric tomorrow night, in what promises to be a mental party... don't miss it!

Ibiza 2009 #1

Well it's been a little while since we brought you a little bit of music news, and it seems a lot has happened since then. Summer is now fully under way with Ibiza being brought to life once again with the majority of clubs hosting their opening party's. Here's a sneak preview into what will be going on on the white isle over the next season. Next week I'll be talking about what's going on at Eden, Ibiza Rocks, Pacha and everything else inbetween.

This year looks to be one of stark contrast to years gone by however, with the departure of Manumission from the island and of course DC10 having had a 300,000 EUR fine and a year closure imposed on them by authorities for its breach of crowd numbers last summer. This has made my abandoned trip to the island (due to lack of cash monies) slightly easier to swallow, but what I will be missing is still bad enough.
Many of the clubs have taken on new residencies in what looks to be one of the best season's to date.

Es Parasia will be invaded on thursdays by Electric Vendetta with a focus on Tech House, Electro and Fidget... summer guests are likely to include Bart B More, Micky Slim, Bass Weazels, Stupid Fresh, Kelevra and Myles Dyson among others.
The inclusion of Prang at Es Paradis however is one that will surely be staking a claim to be the biggest Sunday night of the island, with a fine focus on Drum n Bass and Dubstep... The first night kicked off on Sunday just passed with a 2 hour extended set from Radio 1's Grooverider who will be alternating weekly with his partner in crime Fabio. Future headliners confirmed so far for the 13 week extravaganza include Example, LD, Shy FX and Blame.
There's also the charasmatic Water Party every Wednesday and Saturday which consistantly proves to be one of the best nights out on the whole island.

Privilege will continue to pack itself out by keeping hold of God on the decks himself, Tiesto every Monday for a weekly residency running from 8th June, until September 21st with special guests. If you're looking for an all round party extravanganza look no further than Fridays with SuperMartXe, which transforms Privilege into a 100,000w lighting show, with I can only scarcely imagine.

Amnesia will be hosting Sven Väth's Cocoon on Mondays, which will be celebrating its 10th year in clubland, with a special season of craziness that only they know how. The opening party kicks things off on June 15th with performances from Sven himself and Ricardo Villalobos. Guests this summer include Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Loco Dice, Luciano, Radioslave, Josh Wink, Raresh, DJ Sneak and an exclusive Live performance from Joris Voorn.
Armind Van Buuren's Armada and Release Yourself will be taking over Tuesday nights, with guests Markus Shultz, Laidback Luke and Remy confirmed to date.
However, its Cream that will surely steal the show with regular performances from Ferry Corsten, Sander Van Doorn, Sasha and Paul Van Dyk and inviting Annie Mac's Presents Tour on the terrace one a month to showcase the freshest talent in Electro, Fidget and B More with performances from Diplo, Crookers, Simian Mobile Disco, Boy 8 Bit and Annie Mac herself to name a few.

Then there is of course Space, one of the most popular clubs on the island, which is famed for its amazing opening and closing parties, which I aim to go to at the end of this season. Why not? Fly over for one day and go to the closing party for shits... has to be done!
The pick of the bunch is obviously We Love Sundays, which will be hosting a new residency in the Red Box with Chew The Fat! and Foamo.
The opening party will include a Live performance from Joris Voorn who will be joined by Claude von Stroke, Danny Howells and residents Steve Lawler and Carl Craig. Chew The Fat! will be present with resident Foamo and sets from Jem Haynes and Andy Caroll.
Over the 17 week season which culminates in the ultimate closing party, expect performances from the likes of Busy P, DJ Mehdi, Felix Da Housecat, Riton, 2 Many DJs, Deep Josh, James Zabiela, Lay & Bushwacka, Crookers, Jesse Rose, Hercules & Love Affair, Cagedbaby, Kissy Sell Out, Yousef, Alfredo, Simian Mobile Disco, David Guetta, Aeroplane, Zombie Nation, Andy C, Brodinski and Rob Da Bank. As well as an exclusive DJ set from The Chemical Brothers and a full live show performance from Grace Jones.

If you're heading off to Ibiza in the next few days or weeks of even if you've got a trip planned for later in the summer, make sure you remember five very important things, your passport, your money, your swimsuit, your sunblock and those all important raving shades. Have a top one!

New Zomby EP!!

Yes that's right, Hyperdub producer has a new EP coming! Only thing I know about this EP is that it has this cover which Ramp Recordings posted on Dubstep Forum. So yeah... bit of a pointless post? Possibly. But it's news so exciting I thought it was worth posting...

Sorry if you thought this post might actually contain samples, or any real details about the EP.

It's a nice cover though innit?

ITS GOING DOWN!!!!!

So its Sunday afternoon and I'm just browsing the blogs as usual when I realised I hadn't downloaded the first installment in Palms Out Sound's Sounds of Summer series, which went live this week. They're a series of mixes, much like the mix series, that they introduced a while back featuring mainly mixes from all the contributers, my favourite being from Urchins.
The first entry was mixed by up and coming UK Producer Foamo, who was responsible for one of last year's biggest club tunes Everything Cool, and after a few calmer electro-housey numbers, the past few months has see him tackle a much darker side to his charasmatic jackin' bass sound. This mixtape is no exception, if you're looking for an hour of pure filth to get you in the mood for the biggest raving summer of your life, then look no further!

Tracklisting:
Project Pat - Keep It Hood (Bird Peterson Remix)
Major Lazer - Supahype (Sticky K Remix)
The Faint - Machine in The Ghost (Djedjotronic Remix)
Lee Mortimer & Foamo - Its Going Down
Kill The Noise & Foamo - Work it
Black Noise - Knock You Out (Andy George Remix)
Jaimie Fanatic - Programmed
Cat House - Animal (Lee Mortimer Remix)
Man Like Me - London Town (Foamo Remix)
Redlight & Ben Westbeech - Do It All Again
Franz Ferdinand - No You Girls (Foamo Remix)
Frankmusik - Better Off As 2 (A1 Bassline Remix)
DJ Gant-Man - Juke Dat Girl (Nadastrom Remix / Foamo Edit)
Blackfinger – Up Middle Finger (Supra1 Remix)
Diplo & Laidback Luke - Hey! (Foamo Remix)
Detboi - Whine Ya Body
Radioclit - Divine Gosa (Kevstar Latin Remix)
The Whip - Dive Bomb (Mumdance Remix)
Mowgli - Sequencer
Daniel Papini - Church of Nonsense
Renaissance Man - Spraycan
Metronomy - Radio Ladio (Radioclit Remix)
Alvaro - Rock the Festival
Zinc - Blunt Edge
Felix Da Housecat - Kickdrum
Raffertie - Antisocial (B.Rich Remix)
La Roux - Bulletproof (Foamo Remix)
Mystery Jets - 2 Doors Down (Foamo Remix)

One tune that's really caught my eye is his collaboration with Ministry of Sound resident Lee Mortimer titled It's Going Down, which samples vocals from Noisia's Block Control, one of my favourite DnB releases to date. It's a mashup of everything great about the new house scene and the side of dubstep that really appeals to me.

However, things really start of get kicking at around 25 minutes with the man's remix of Franz Ferdinand, A1 Bassline's remix of Frankmusik and Jack Beats' ridiculous remix of Get Off by Diplo & Blqstarr, which is killing it in the clubs right now. Following this little ravey warm up is Supra1's makeover of Blackfinger's Up Middle Finger, before unleashing into downright lunacy with Foamo's own remix of Laidback Luke's Hey! (which quite frankly is absolutely disgusting), Detboi's Whine Ya Body, Kevstar Latin's take on Divine Gosa. At this point there are goosebumps all over my arms and I'm jumping around my bedroom.
Things are about to get even better though with a sublime transition into Mumdance's brilliant take on Trash (my favourite track by The Whip), Mowgli's Sequencer, the ever popular Church of Nonsence and then Spraycan to wind you down a slight gear into the end of the mix, with Zinc's Blunt Edge and Felix Da Housecat's Kickdrum.

I am telling you, mark my words by the end of this summer, with a residency @ Space in Ibiza on his resume, Foamo will launch himself into the DJ Super League! This mix is immense, and the track selection, sublime... do not miss this!

The Apple Fritter - Bedroom Rave Vol. 2

Hey peeps, I finished a new mix last week, I've been a bit busy with Uni in the last month so I didn't get a chance to make a meaningful mix for May. In turn, I thought I'd record a set I played at uni a few weeks ago, done on the third take after some very interesting errors relating to some irritating bass kill buttons on my mixer, damn you Behringer! It's the second mix in my bedroom rave series that isn't supposed to be taken too seriously, but just something you should put on in the evening or times when you need to let off a bit of steam.

Anyway here it is... the track selection is a bit Jack Beats heavy, but it kind of gives you and idea of the kind of style I like to play when I DJ. It's quite different to Ben's, I'm more of an all out, whatever blows, throw a bass kick there, hook there, and see what happens, but I was quite happy with how this turned out... let me know what you think :). Incase you were wondering, the intro I nicked from Stupid Fresh's Mid Summer Feltch mixtape from last summer, which I edited down a wee bit. Enjoy...

Tracklisting:

1. Stupid Fresh & Stella MC Intro
2. His Majesty Andre - Peep Thong
3. Jack Beats ft. Dynamite MC - What (Boy 8 Bit Remix)
4. CJ Bolland - Sugar Sweeter (Twocker Remix)
5. Jack Beats - Radio 1 Minimix Intro
6. AC Slater - Jack Got Jacked (AC Slater Remix)
7. Jack Beats ft Dynamite MC - What (Foamo Edit)
8. Audio Bullys - Dope Fiend (Tommie Sunshine & Udachi Remix)
9. TC - Where's My Money (Caspa Remix: Jack Beats Edit)
10. Chase & Status - Saxon
11. La Roux - In For The Kill (Skream Remix: Last Japan Edit)

I'm hopefully going to have two new mixes done by the end of the month, the third in the bedroom rave series, but also the first in a new series thats more Breaks/Funk/Grime influenced. Sorry also if any of you were wondering where the Bugged Out! review was on Wednesday, I kind of fell asleep writing it at 4am on Wednesday morning hehe, so thought I'd leave it until tomorrow. Hope you're all having a great weekend, just incase you didn't know, Bloody Beetroots are playing @ Egg tonight, BIG!

The Squeaks Week #4

Got some interesting tunes for you this week, of course keeping things in the uplifting, melodic kind of manor. Something has struck me this week, that I really need to listen to more of these tunes, I've spent so much time trying to find the next 'banger' that I've neglected some of the tunes that really matter. The ones that make you melt with genius, and these are no exception!

Now I wouldn't normally place Calvertron in this kind of brow of music, but there's something about this track which makes it a bit more than just a bassline covered in layers of tidy synths. It's got a bit of passion in there, and soul that really shines through from the dude's production skills. It's not the sort of tune that I've come to expect from Calvertron, but after his amazing remix of Infinity 2008 last year, it's fair to say we'll be seeing a bit more from the man in this style, and I'd happily lap it up!

Some nice 100bpm instrumental hip hop for you here - french producer Tayreeb lays down some serious tune action - the drums glisten and click like hip hop should, and the synths have that kind of wonky feel that has getting so much attention in the dubstep scene recently.  It's music with soul, and that little 'huh' vocal sample propels it along very nicely.  One of my complaints with a lot of instrumental hip hop is that there's no punch to it - but this tune is exactly the opposite, with enough punch to get any dancefloor moving.  It's part of Tayreeb's compilation album for Stereotree - Beat Heroes Vol. 2.  You can cop the rest of that comp here and I recommend you get on it - real summer music.

Nice slice of summery disco for you next - Marius Vareid's Skumle Planer released on Full Pupp.  Just some nice ascending synth lines and a slow driving disco beat - simple but effective.

Cop this for some proper beast techno action - Popof's new EP is out now on Form, called the High & Down EP.  At first the title track was my favourite, but this has fast overtaken it.  That breakdown must have required some serious synth programming - but its worth it when it drops with that cathartic bassline.  Make sure you pick up the whole EP, you can grab it from Beatport here

Euphoric electronica from this Swiss trio to finish us off today - a soaring bed of synths with brooding vocals that complement them perfectly.

L-Vis 1990

You'll have read about L-Vis 1990 on these pages before - he's one of my favourite producers, and a definite tip to be big in 2009 - I've been waiting for literally months for news about his next release - it's called United Groove, and fellow Night Slugs resident Bok Bok told me back in January that it should be out sometime mid 2009 on Mad Decent... and that day has finally come.  The full video is now up on youtube (the only place you could hear the song before was in L-Vis mixes), and the vinyl is available for pre - order over at the Mad Decent online store here.  I'm definitely gonna be jumping on that vinyl - the artwork looks really amazing, and there's a previously unheard B side - 'Come Together'.

Check the video below - it's well worth seeing.  L-Vis put it together himself, and it's got some awesome dancing from Sims type characters.

Hearing the song in full has made me even more excited for this release - that funky bongo drum beat at the beginning is completely hypnotic, and those synth stabs are hot enough to set any dancefloor moving.  L-Vis keeps on bringing up the tension with those ascending and descending synth lines, and then it all gets released at 2 mins with some glorious bass.  Get on this, I've no doubt you'll be hearing it everywhere.

Baobinga Artist Feature

Today, I've got a really great treat for you all and an introduction to Sam Sampson AKA Baobinga, a DJ/Producer from Manchester who some of you may recognise from his long lasting partnership with Breaks and Garage DJ I.D., who together remixed AC Slater's banger Vertigo and put out one of the albums of 2008 in Big Monster.

They both run the blog bassmusic.com and are appearing at this years' Glade Festival in Winchester, Hampshire; but back now to Baobinga.

Sam isn't entirely new to the scene, in fact his first official release was a 12" on Plastic Raygun way back in 2002 entitled Nukka. Since then he's released orignals and remixes on Fusetrax and Cyberfunk Records as well as being featured on three different Fabriclive albums; Tayo's, Freq Nasty's and Freestylers'. Last year he was signed up and released a track on Trouble & Bass entitled State of Ghetto Jackin', along with a remix of an Aquasky & Drummatic Twins' compilation on Aquasky's Passenger label.

Having toured all over Europe in the past few years, his profile will certainly rocket over the summer when performing at Glade with I.D., and you can catch him @ The Urban Nerds party @ 93 Ft East this month with Jack Beats, Mumdance and entrants from the DMC World Championships

His sound has changed some what over the past couple of years; switching his attention solely from the Breaks and Dub (that's Dub, not Dubstep) scenes to focus more of his attention of the rising new Grime scene, including its crossovers with the new UK Funky scene that Ben has far more knowledge of than me, so I won't go on. Instead here's a few of the man's tunes including a great mix that was featured over at Mad Decent at the turn of the year.

AC Slater - Vertigo (Baobinga & I.D. Remix)

Madox - Duckalicious (Baobinga's Thugalicious Remix)
